Ticket information

Each graduate will be allotted three tickets for the 9 a.m. Presidential Conferment of Degrees ceremony and five tickets for their respective Presentation of Degrees ceremony. Tickets may not be exchanged for different ceremony times. SCAD does not regulate the private redistribution of tickets and strictly forbids ticket selling.

Overflow seating will be available on-site on a first-come, first-served basis and is subject to capacity. No tickets are required for overflow entry. Non-ticket holders are encouraged to arrive early in order to secure a place in the overflow line.

Unused tickets may be surrendered by guests upon arrival at commencement. These tickets will be distributed by event staff to non-ticket holders in the overflow line. Day-of spare tickets are complimentary, subject to availability and only offered to guests waiting in this line.

Is handicapped-accessible seating available for family members?
Handicapped-accessible seating is available for guests who require special accommodations for a disability. Because of limited handicapped-accessible seating, we encourage families in need of such seating to arrive early. Email [email protected] to request special seating arrangements.

How early should we arrive? How long do the ceremonies last?
Doors open at 7 a.m. The Presidential Conferment of Degrees ceremony typically lasts a little more than an hour. The Presentation of Degrees ceremonies typically last two hours each.

Can I bring my bag?
For the comfort of all guests, large bags including backpacks, suitcases, large camera bags and large purses are not allowed in the venue. All purses, bags and packages are subject to inspection before entry to the venue, and all attendees will be required to pass through metal detectors to ensure the safety of ceremony guests.

What’s the difference between the ceremonies?
Because of the large number of graduates, each student will participate in two separate ceremonies: the Presidential Conferment of Degrees ceremony in the morning and one of two Presentation of Degrees ceremonies in the afternoon, broken down by academic school.

The Presidential Conferment of Degrees ceremony will feature remarks by SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace, honored students, alumni and distinguished students, concluding with an official conferment of earned degrees for the graduates. During the Presentation of Degrees ceremony, each student's name will be called to walk across the stage. All ceremonies will be held at the Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island in Savannah.

Do graduates need to attend a graduation meeting?
Every graduating student should attend the Commencement Participation Meeting on Friday, April 19, at Trustees Theater. Students in the Schools of Building Arts, Digital Media, Entertainment Arts and Liberal Arts meet at 11 a.m. Students in the Schools of Communication Arts, Design, Fashion and Fine Arts meet at 1 p.m.

Do graduates need to order a cap and gown?
Students need to order their cap, gown and academic regalia from Oak Hall Cap and Gown by Friday, May 17. Graduating students should visit the graduation blog for information on ordering these items.

How many tickets does each graduate receive?
Each graduate will receive three tickets to the Presidential Conferment of Degrees ceremony and five tickets to their respective Presentation of Degrees ceremony.

Where do graduates pick up their tickets?
Graduates will need to pick up their commencement tickets at the Trustees Theater Box Office between Monday, May 20, and Thursday, May 30. Graduates must present their SCAD Card to receive commencement tickets. Trustees Theater is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

How can families secure additional ceremony tickets?
Additional tickets cannot be requested in advance; however, unused tickets will be distributed to guests in the simulcast line prior to each ceremony. Guests needing additional tickets are encouraged to arrive early. A live simulcast is available for guests without tickets in the Oglethorpe Auditorium in the Savannah Convention Center. Additionally, all ceremonies are livestreamed via scad.edu/commencement so that family members around the globe can enjoy the moment and celebrate.

Prior to the ceremonies, families with extra tickets to give away, as well as those seeking additional tickets, are encouraged to post on the SCAD Savannah 2019 Commencement Facebook page to facilitate a free exchange of tickets.

Where can graduates order graduation announcements and class rings?
Graduation announcements and official SCAD class rings can be ordered through Herff Jones.

Are graduation photos available to purchase after the ceremony?

When can graduates expect to receive their diploma?
During the ceremony, graduates will receive a congratulatory letter from President Wallace inside their SCAD diploma cover. The actual diploma will be mailed once spring grades are submitted and the student’s graduation requirements are confirmed. Graduates can expect to receive their diploma within 12 weeks of commencement at the mailing address they provided on their graduation application.

Are shuttles available for transportation to the commencement ceremonies?
Due to parking limitations at the Savannah Convention Center, SCAD will provide graduates with shuttles to the 9 a.m. ceremony. Graduates can also choose to ride with a family member or use ride-sharing and taxi services. Graduates will not be permitted to park at the Savannah Convention Center for the 9 a.m. ceremony. All graduates must be at the Savannah Convention Center by 7 a.m.

Families and guests can begin parking at the Savannah Convention Center at 7 a.m.

Graduates departing from the 9 a.m. ceremony can leave with their family, take the ferry or use the limited shuttle service that will run until 9 p.m.

Graduates are permitted to drive to the 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. ceremonies.

Where do guests park for the commencement ceremonies?

SCAD encourages families and guests to use a special SCAD-chartered riverboat departing at 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. from the River Street Market landing at 502 E. River St. Families and guests are also encouraged to take advantage of the city's free ferry service from River Street, which runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ferry schedule and route map are available online.

Are there hotel or restaurant recommendations?
Many of the historic district hotels will offer a special discounted rate to SCAD families, but you’ll need to call the hotel directly to inquire. Because this is a popular weekend, restaurants in the downtown area are busy, and reservations are encouraged if you plan to dine with a large group.
