Luxury hotels, collaborative office spaces among winning designs in ASID Student Portfolio Competition
Two SCAD students won top honors in the American Society of Interior Designers Student Portfolio Competition, earning recognition for comprehensive portfolios that included stunning hotel, home, corporate, and retail spaces located around the globe.
SCAD students Alexa Fombrun (B.F.A. interior design) and Jessica Ma (B.F.A. interior design) were named two of the three winners of the 2020 student competition. Winners were announced as part of SCALE: The ASID National Student Summit, held in Seattle in February, and received a cash prize from Benjamin Moore, the competition sponsor.
Ma's portfolio included a specialized living facility for people with autism in New York, a luxury hotel and resort in Osaka, offices for a sustainable shoe company in Savannah, studio apartments in Hong Kong, and an art installation in Hong Kong.
Fombrun's portfolio included a luxury hotel in Cairo, Egypt; a boutique children's clothing and footwear store in Atlanta; the offices for an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization serving vulnerable children in the Caribbean; and a collapsible meditation pod made entirely of cardboard.
Three other SCAD students were named finalists in the competition, which evaluates the best collections of student design in the U.S. and selects winners based on context, conceptual thought, and the context of submitted portfolios.
