Themed entertainment professionals design the unforgettable experiences of entertainment parks, zoos, resorts, hotels, restaurants and museums. They conceive and construct unique environments and settings around the world in order to inform, entertain and enthrall. And SCAD offers the only M.F.A. degree program in this rapidly growing, billion-dollar industry.
The experience economyAt SCAD, themed entertainment design students progress through a unique curriculum, preparing them for the growing "experience economy" that defines entertainment and recreation around the world, at theme parks and resorts in the U.S., Asia, South America and Europe. The program leverages SCAD's collaborative culture, where students work with peers to create stunning entertainment experiences. Students also work with industry partners on innovative concepts as well as real-world design projects.
Themed entertainment design is offered in Savannah.
Themed entertainment design faculty members have designed experiences for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Orlando, California, Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo, as well as Universal Parks and Resorts. Professors include long-term veterans of Walt Disney Imagineering, recipients of lifetime achievement honors from The United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and current board members of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA).
SCAD industry connections yield significant opportunities for students, such as a recent trip to Walt Disney, where students spent a week with Imagineers. Hands-on experience is complemented by a curriculum that combines the modeling strategies of architecture and electronic design with the creative problem-solving approaches of industrial design and production design. The quality of SCAD's themed entertainment design program prepares students to lead the industry-as creative thinkers, storytellers, designers, producers and engineers.
