SCAD graduates take to the stage in annual commencement ceremony

Media and performing arts graduate Bridget Fancher (center) celebrates her graduation from SCAD at the Savannah Civic Center May 31 with fellow media and performing arts graduates (clockwise from top) Joe Kinosian, Forrest Simmons, Carrie Manuel, Blake Mauldin, James Junio, Mitch Montgomery and Traci Simons.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee, the keynote speaker at the 2003 commencement ceremony, advised the more than 900 graduates, “Your lives in the arts allow you greater freedom than the lives of most people. You do not have merely a nine to five job. Being a creative person is a 24-hour-a-day job and your responsibilities to the art that you practice are combined with your responsibilities to the society in which you live.” At the ceremony, Albee received an honorary doctor of humanities degree.
