School of Fine Arts celebrates the traditional

By Ally Jackson

The School of Fine Arts comprises not only the most traditional disciplines at the Savannah College of Art and Design, but also some of the busiest. With painting and foundation studies offering a constant stream of events, exhibitions and competitions, the students and faculty are long on experience and never short of accolades.

"Program development and clarification are fundamental to the focus of the school this year," said Sandra Reed, dean of the School of Fine Arts.

Foundation studies
New faculty in foundation studies are Jorge Alvarez, from El Museo Del Barrio in New York City where he taught Central American arts and history; Dale Clifford, from the American University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he served as the program chair of visual communication; Nancy Doolan, from the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala, Fla.; Amy Freeman, from Dartmouth College; Ray Goto, who has a background in both graphic design and sequential art; Yuki Hirao, from the furniture and product design division of Matteo, where she was responsible for developing designs; Marcia Neblett from Baruch College in New York City; and part-time faculty including Kathy Bush and Patrick McKinnon.
