‘What’s on your mind?’ session scheduled
SCAD President Paula Wallace will host a "Tell me what’s on your mind" chat day Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To make an appointment, students can call 525-5205. An online chat session will be held 3-4 p.m. that same day.


Work needed for upcoming exhibitions
The galleries department is seeking work for the "Small Works" exhibition, scheduled for Nov. 7 - Dec. 31 at Exhibit A Gallery.

Small Works is an annual salon-style exhibit which gives everyone in the SCAD community an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.

If you are a SCAD student, alumni, faculty or staff member, and are interested in exhibiting your work, please visit any of SCAD’s galleries or contact Tory Lamb at 525-4950 for more information. The work must be dropped off at Rapid Transit Gallery in Poetter Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 times. No late entries will be accepted.

The galleries department invites all new faculty to participate in the second annual "New Faculty Exhibition" to be held in the college’s Pinnacle Gallery in December. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 25. Read the official call for entries at http://www.scad.edu/callforentries/.

The winter 2003 call for entries is now available for "Sidelines: The Student Athlete Exhibition." This exhibition is open to students currently playing an athletic sport at SCAD. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 1. Read the official call for entries at http://www.scad.edu/callforentries/.


Stay safe and be in the know
SCAD’s office of campus safety provides up-to-the-minute safety alerts and warnings, annual crime statistics reports for the college and links to reports prepared by local and state law enforcement authorities. View these reports anytime at http://www.scad.edu/statistics/.

In addition, the college provides numerous resources to help students, faculty and staff stay safe, including call boxes, safety education seminars, the Bee Safe housing program, emergency and non-emergency transportation services and more. Haunted happenings slated for Oglethorpe House
The Student Activities Council presents "Haunted Hollywood," the annual masquerade ball, Oct. 31, 9 p.m. to midnight, in the Oglethorpe House ballroom. The event is free and open to students.


Scholarship opportunity pays nearly everything for the recipient
Savannah College of Art and Design students are invited to apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship Program. The award will provide funding for tuition, room and board, required fees and books for the remainder of the scholar’s undergraduate program. The foundation will award scholarships to students in spring 2003 for use during the 2003-2004 academic year. Students must be a junior during the fall 2003 term, have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher and must be nominated by the college. Breast cancer walk/run to be held Oct. 26
The residence life department will sponsor a team for the American Cancer Society’s "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" 5K walk/run. The event will be held Oct. 26 at the Savannah Mall. Those who make a donation of $15 get a T-shirt. There will be a bus leaving from Oglethorpe House at 6:45 a.m. and will return at 11 a.m. Please call Carol Miller at 525-7000 to reserve a seat on the bus.


Meal plan available to faculty/staff
A college-sponsored meal plan is now available for faculty and staff. This new plan allows the participant 55 meals that may be used at Café SCAD, J.O.’s, the Turner House convenience store, Bobbie’s Diner, Streamliner Diner and Montgomery Hall from the time of purchase until Aug. 31, 2003. The plan costs $300 and may be purchased at the Turner House express office and paid for by cash, check or payroll deduction. For more information, please e-mail scadcard@scad.edu.


Notify SCAD of address changes
Be sure to update home address information with the college if it changes. Send changes to addresses@scad.edu and include employee identification number.


Payments to be direct deposited
Effective Jan. 1, 2003, all payments made to employees through accounts payable (reimbursements, advances, etc.) will be direct deposited into the employee’s bank account. Accounts payable will use the primary bank account each employee has on file with payroll.

If an employee wishes for their payments to be directed to a different account than the one on file with payroll, please contact Michele Milligan at 525-6162 or Mary Jones at 525-6131 to make those arrangements.


New procedures in place for computer needs
Please note the following new procedures for processing Computer Needs Request Forms, effective immediately.

• Upon receipt of a signed CNRF, the request will be entered into the database, and a memorandum stating that it has been received and is under review will be sent to the person initiating the request.
• The request will be reviewed, and a recommendation on how to fill the request will be made.
• SCAD’s vendors will quote the request, and an e-mail will be sent to the vice president or dean of the respective department to confirm approval of the funds to come out of the requesting department’s budget.
• Upon written authorization from the vice president or dean of the department, the request will be forwarded to the vice president for information management and technology for review.
• If the request is approved by the vice president for information management and technology, a memorandum will be sent to the requester, stating that a purchase requisition will be completed and submitted for processing.

Please note that all purchase requisitions are still subject to approval by the vice president for business and finance. Also note that any CNRF without all of the appropriate signatures and written authorization from the vice president or dean to use department funds will not be reviewed or processed.


New calendar options online
Do you have a scheduling calendar that could be shared with your entire department? Take a look at the new Web-based calendar options for faculty and staff. Training sessions are now available as well as special sessions that can be scheduled for entire departments. For more information, e-mail training@scad.edu.


Computer training sessions offered
Computer training sessions are now forming. Learn the ins and outs of Web-based e-mail, Outlook Express and full Outlook. Create PowerPoint presentations and handouts for departmental meetings and presentations. Advanced Excel formatting options, formulas and transfer of data to other Microsoft applications are offered as well. To register for a class or design departmental training, e-mail training@scad.edu.


Faculty/staff directories posted on SCAD Web site
The faculty and staff directories are available online in PDF format. Visit http://www.scad.edu/employee and click on "Handbooks and Forms" and then on "Faculty Handbook." Log in using your SCAD Webmail username and password.


Don’t park in the lot next to Crites Hall
Students, faculty and staff are warned that the property owners of the empty dirt lot next to Crites Hall has informed SCAD transportation and parking services that they will soon begin towing unauthorized vehicles parked in the lot.

The empty lot has been college property. Students and faculty initially were able to utilize the lot through owners’ goodwill. However they have requested students, faculty and staff to stop using the lot.

The college recently has established satellite commuter shuttle lots. For more information, and a list of SCAD parking facilities and schedules, please visit the college transportation and parking page listed under Hot Links at www.scad.edu.


Writing Center offers assistance
All three writing consultants in the Writing Center will be available Nov. 24 noon to 9 p.m. for students who need last-minute assistance. The Writing Center is located in Jen Library and the phone number is 525-4707.


Parking decals required for SCAD lots
The college transportation and parking services office encourages students, faculty and staff using SCAD parking lots to make sure they have their parking decal and it is properly displayed. The pass should be adhered at the bottom of the driver’s side windshield.

Vehicles parked in college lots without a valid parking decal or visitor parking pass may be towed at the owner’s expense. Parking space is limited and several cars have been removed from the Weston, Dyson, Oglethorpe, Habersham, Montgomery and other SCAD lots.

Students, faculty and staff who do not have a parking decal can go to the Turner Express office in Turner House, 302 W. Boundary St., the campus safety office at 210 Barnard St., or fourth floor, Propes Hall, 15 Drayton St.


Applications now accepted for Lacoste residency program
The off-campus programs office is accepting applications for the Graduate Residency Program at the Lacoste School of the Arts. This program provides graduate-level students a unique forum for self-directed study and artistic engagement. Residents work independently in studios, convene regularly with resident faculty and meet with distinguished guest artists. The residency program is based in the small village of Lacoste, a beautifully preserved medieval village located in the south of France.
