About this challenge
The 2011-12 SCAD Challenge jewelry competition called for pieces that embraced sustainable design through the use of recycled materials. Entrants to this challenge submitted jewelry of all varieties, from earrings to headdresses, and employed recycled materials ranging from burnt matchsticks to old silverware. The SCAD Challenge mentors chose 17 finalists whose work most creatively interpreted the challenge and best employed a stylish contemporary design aesthetic. From among these finalists, the panel of faculty judges chose three entrants whose work best exemplified creative design under limiting restrictions, and who demonstrated the greatest potential for success as both SCAD students and creative professionals. These three winners will be awarded scholarships to attend SCAD.
