SCAD Challenge Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter more than one challenge?

Yes! Eligible students are able to enter all challenges.

 

Can I enter more than one piece for each challenge?

No, eligible students can enter multiple competitions but will only be able to submit one piece per challenge.

 

Can I win multiple SCAD Challenge scholarships?

No, students can enter multiple challenges but will only be awarded one scholarship. Students who win multiple challenges will receive the highest amount they were awarded.

 

Am I eligible for any other scholarships in addition to the SCAD Challenge Scholarship?

Yes! The SCAD Challenge Scholarship can be stacked (added) to any other admission scholarships students may qualify for. Students who plan to apply for financial aid through SCAD should review other scholarship opportunities for entering students.

 

Do I have to apply to SCAD to be eligible to compete?

No. All eligible high school seniors and juniors are welcome to compete. However, students who are awarded SCAD Challenge scholarships must apply and be accepted to SCAD before scholarship funds will be disbursed.

 

I worked in a group to complete my film/animation/wild card entry. Can we all submit the piece for the challenge?

While students are permitted to work together on film and animation projects, only one student may enter the film for judging.

 

Is there a theme for each challenge?

There is not an overall theme for the SCAD Challenge or for individual challenge categories, unless otherwise noted. We encourage you to create pieces that demonstrate your unique talent and voice as an artist or designer.

 

I am a junior in high school. Which challenges can I enter?

Students who are juniors during the 2011-2012 academic year are eligible to enter the SCAD Junior Challenge in the 2-D, Photography and Wild Card sub-categories.

 

What does Wild Card mean? What kind of works am I allowed to submit under that category?

There is virtually no limit to the type of work juniors may submit under the Wild Card category. Students competing in the Junior Challenge should submit photographs under the Photography category and any flat piece created with a traditional medium (paint, pen-and-ink, printmaking, etc.) under 2-D. Any other kind of creative work-- short films, web designs, works of fiction, sculptures, originally designed garments, etc.-- should be submitted under the Wild Card category. The Junior Challenge judges expect entrants to take full advantage of the open-ended Wild Card category to demonstrate their creative skills.

 

Who can enter the challenges?
For the 2011-2012 academic year, high school seniors are eligible to enter all competitions. High school juniors are eligible to enter the Junior Challenge.
