The SCAD Challenge accessories competition offers students an international platform for exhibiting pieces that demonstrate their design ingenuity and sense of style.
High school seniors are invited to submit an original bag design that demonstrates originality and a unique fashion sense. Entries must be functional as bags, handbags, purses, totes or clutches, but may be created from any type of material, ranging from upcycled T-shirts and shredded magazine pages to newly bought luxury fabrics and beading.
Winning entries will be daring and aesthetically interesting handbag designs that demonstrate an ability to make bold and innovative choices in response to an open-ended design brief. Entrants are encouraged to interpret the challenge creatively, and may submit pieces that range in size and functionality from a couture clutch to a hip messenger bag.
Finalists’ work is featured in a permanent online gallery and three winners are awarded scholarships to attend SCAD. This funding can be added to other scholarships and financial aid.
Students who are awarded scholarships to attend SCAD through the SCAD Challenge Accessory competition may be interested in pursuing a degree in accessory design, fashion, industrial design or fashion marketing and management.
