Vehicle Registration and Parking Permits
Due to the historic Savannah locations of most SCAD buildings, parking is limited on college property. Students are strongly encouraged to utilize the convenient and extensive SCAD transportation system rather than driving their personal vehicles. First-year students who live in residence halls are discouraged from bringing vehicles to the college. All students living in the residence halls are permitted to have only one vehicle (i.e. motorcycle, car or truck) on college grounds at a time.

All students, staff and faculty must register their vehicles before parking in any SCAD lot. Student parking permits are free and are validated for the academic year. A second valid decal may be purchased for an additional vehicle by staff, faculty and non-resident students for a $35 fee. To obtain a permit, students, faculty and staff must register their vehicle through MySCAD. All students living in residence halls must obtain a permit designated for the assigned residence hall. Faculty and staff permits are free and are valid for the entire year. Any changes in vehicle information must be reported to either permit office. Changes are made free of charge.

SCAD Parking Permits
SCAD parking permits and detailed parking information and policies may be obtained at the following locations:

Parking permits must be properly placed on the bottom corner of the driver's side of the outside of the front windshield (see fig. 1). Motorcycles and motor scooters must display the permit on either front fork or on the left side of the windshield (see fig. 2). Once registered, a vehicle is permitted to park in most SCAD lots and the owner or driver acknowledges his or her responsibility to abide by all rules and regulations. The holder of the permit is responsible for any citations the vehicle receives, regardless of who was operating the vehicle at the time.

Towing is enforced in college parking lots as indicated by posted signs. Any vehicle parked in a SCAD lot without a current permit or in violation of handicapped or fire lane designation is subject to ticketing and towing without warning. All outstanding parking fines and associated towing fees must be paid in full before the vehicle is released.

Obtaining a valid SCAD parking permit does not guarantee the availability of a parking space in any college parking lot. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Online Vehicle Registration
Students, faculty and staff may register vehicles online via MySCAD. After logging on to MySCAD, follow the directions below to register vehicles.

  1. Click on the My Info tab.
  2. Select "Parking Services" from the "My Personal Info" channel.
  3. Follow the instructions to register or renew your vehicle (vehicle make, model, year and tag number are needed for this process).
  4. After registering a vehicle, print out the temporary permit and place it on the outside of the back windshield, on the bottom corner of the driver's side.
Participants will need to bring their SCAD ID cards and temporary registration printout in person to York Hall or the Turner Express Office.

Faculty and staff may designate one person per department or building to collect temporary permits and pick up stickers at York Hall, 115 E. York St., 912.525.6153. Include a phone number where you can be reached at the college.

Participants unable to come into the office the day they registered the vehicle must make sure to place the temporary permit on the driver's side of the dashboard. Permits are only good for a limited time.

At the start of each quarter, parking officers will begin to ticket and tow without warning all vehicles without a current decal.

Student Decals
Student parking decals are valid throughout the academic year.
  • First-year students living in residence halls will be issued "R" decals. This decal permits students to park at their at residence halls only. The small lot across from Turner House is an academic lot and is not available to students holding an "R" decal.
  • Commuter and non-first-year students will be issued "S" decals, allowing them to park at any time in the commuter lots, academic building lots and residence hall parking lots (excluding all residence halls unless a resident).
  • Residents of Boundary Village must obtain a "B" decal.
  • Residents of Barnard Village must obtain a "BA" decal.
  • Residents of Oglethorpe House must obtain an "O" decal.
  • Faculty and staff are permitted to park in any SCAD lot.

Temporary Parking/Visitor Pass

For faculty and staff
When driving a rental car or expecting a visitor to the college, you must obtain a visitor pass. For extended visitor passes, obtain a visitor parking pass at York Hall or Turner Express Office. For vehicles visiting for five days or less, you must obtain a temporary permit by registering the vehicle through a MySCAD account and placing the automatically generated permit on the driver's side dashboard.

For students
When driving a rental car, you must obtain a temporary permit by registering the vehicle through a MySCAD account and placing the automatically generated permit on the driver's side dashboard. When a visitor pass is needed for a guest of a student staying on campus, you must obtain parking pass along with the guest pass from the residence director for your residence hall. Guests will follow all rules and regulations.

Any vehicle parked in a SCAD parking lot without a properly displayed current parking permit or visitor pass will be towed without warning at the owner's expense.

Academic and administrative departments of the college may obtain visitor passes from York Hall or the Turner Express Office. The department is responsible for visitor passes received.
