Part-Time Positions

SCAD-eLearning Faculty
Due to expansion and the success of distance education programs offered through SCAD-eLearning, the Savannah College of Art and Design is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach its fully online courses. All coursework offered through SCAD-eLearning is led by faculty members, requiring active teaching, assessment of student work and facilitation of learning via technological means. The college is currently accepting applications for online faculty in photography, contemporary art history, and graphic design. Qualified candidates must have the terminal degree in the discipline or in a related field, as well as online teaching experience with the use of course management systems and instructional software. All courses offered through the college's online program, SCAD-eLearning, are custom designed to reflect the unique qualities, rigor and depth of the college's on-site curriculum. Classes follow the academic calendar for start and stop dates with each term lasting 10 weeks. Contract compensation is $3,800 and is based on a per class basis. Training and faculty orientation is provided. Compensation for course development contracts is $4,000 and is also based on a per class basis. The development contracts run six to nine months based on delivery schedules set through the SCAD-eLearning department. Design assistance is provided through SCAD-eLearning.



School of Building Arts

Chair of Historic Preservation
The Savannah College of Art and Design is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time position as chair of the historic preservation department. Candidates must have a terminal degree, or its equivalent, in historic preservation or a related field. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administrative duties within the department as well as the development and implementation of curriculum and academic standards at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will have demonstrated professional experience in the preservation field and will teach classes related to his or her expertise in areas such as preservation technology, planning, research, restoration construction and adaptive rehabilitation. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in materials conservation. Experience developing e-learning courses or teaching in an online format is desirable but not required.

Professor of Architecture
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in architecture. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree from a NAAB accredited program.  Professional registration (i.e. State Licensing, NCARB, RIBA) is required to teach fourth and fifth year studios.  Candidates must be able to teach studio at the third, fourth or fifth year level, as well as lecture courses in an area of expertise such as Electronic Design, Environmental Controls, Construction Technology, Construction Management, Urban Design and Professional Practice.  College-level teaching experience preferred but not required.
 

Professor of Interior Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in interior design. The department is housed within the School of Building Arts, which also includes the architecture, historic preservation and urban design programs. The graduate interior design program was ranked No. 1 in the United States in the 2008 edition of DesignIntelligence magazine's "America's Best Architecture and Design Schools."

The interior design B.F.A, M.A. (on campus and online) and M.F.A. programs challenge creative students to become innovative designers capable of critical thinking and effective communication. Professional ethics and values are enhanced within the context of social, environmental and global design practice. Applicants must have enthusiasm for design excellence and for collaboration with other majors within the college, as well as a commitment to education.

Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree, or its equivalent, in interior design or a related field. Experience may be in commercial and/or residential design, certified NCIDQ and/or LEED AP. Working knowledge of AutoCad, BIM or other CAD programs is a plus. College-level teaching experience in studio courses, rendering or professional practice is desirable.



School of Communication Arts

Professor of Graphic Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for full-time faculty positions in graphic design. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree, or its equivalent, in graphic design, as well as college-level teaching experience. Ideal candidates will be primarily graphic designers with professional experience and thorough computer/software knowledge. The college seeks educators who will encourage innovation and process development while teaching practical concepts of the design industry as a constant element. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and developing online coursework. Areas of hire include the following:

Professor of Graphic Design (Foundation studies) — Candidates should be flexible design educators who are able to teach a variety of subjects and levels. Foundation studies courses include Introduction to Graphic Design, Typography I, Print Studio I, History of Graphic Design, as well as software application training courses.

Professor of Graphic Design (Web multimedia) — Candidates should be specialists who are able to teach undergraduate and graduate levels of Web and multimedia design on a Macintosh platform using Dreamweaver, GoLive, ImageReady and/or Fireworks, LiveMotion and/or Flash.

Professor of Graphic Design (Upper-level electives and graduate-level courses) — Candidates should be able to teach a variety of subjects and levels and have expertise in teaching graphic design electives and graduate courses such as Corporate Design, Information Design, Publication Design, Environmental Graphics, Trademark and Logo Design, Package Design, Graphic Design Self-promotion, Portfolio Design, and Poster Design.

Professor of Graphic Design (Typography) — Candidates should be typography specialists with educational experience in all levels of typography including basic level typography, advanced typography usage, graduate typography, kinetic typography, and typeface design.


Professor of Graphic Design – Web-based Technology
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for part-time faculty positions in graphic design with emphasis in Web-based technology. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree, or its equivalent, in graphic design or a related field, as well as college-level teaching experience. Ideal candidates should have industry experience, as well as a working knowledge of Web-based software, such as Flash MX, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2, and more. Candidates should possess broad design knowledge with the ability to teach in a variety of subjects and levels from undergraduate to graduate, in a dynamic, rapidly growing, proactive program. Further preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching and developing online coursework.



School of Design

Chair of Metals and Jewelry
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for the chair of its metals and jewelry department. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in metals and jewelry or a related field. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of, and be qualified to teach, a variety of techniques from raising, forging and large-scale fabrication to design and CAD, at all levels. Candidates must have a strong exhibition record and expertise in conceptual art jewelry or production jewelry, with evidence of leadership in the field.

Professor of Accessory Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in accessory design and other related courses in fashion design. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree, or its equivalent, in accessory design or a related field. Technical experience in design theory, patternmaking, millinery, footwear or costume jewelry is advantageous. College-level teaching experience preferred.

Professor of Fashion
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for full-time faculty positions in fashion. Qualified candidates should have a terminal degree or its equivalent in fashion or a related field, as well as a broad knowledge of fashion design. Excellent design skills and professional recognition is essential in order to join this highly creative, motivated, and exciting team that is creating the next generation of fashion designers. Strong skills in the areas of design, concept,innovation, illustration, sketching, and CAD are highly desirable. Areas of expertise may include design,illustration sketching, draping, pattern making and garment construction for misses/specialty sizes, menswear and/or childrenswear. College-level teaching experience in the classroom or through an online format and/or experience developing eLearning courses is also desirable.

Professor of Fibers
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in fibers. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree, or its equivalent, in fibers or a related field. Experience in teaching beginning and advanced level computer-aided textile print design using NedGraphics Vision Texcelle, Photoshop and Illustrator is desired. Candidates should have experience in teaching a variety of hand rendering processes to create textile print designs for a range of end uses. Knowledge of surface design, pattern development and fiber processes to integrate art, craft and design philosophies is also desirable.

Professor of Industrial Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks qualified candidates for a full-time faculty position in industrial design. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in industrial design or a related field, and at least five years professional design experience. Candidates should also have excellent sketching and visualization capabilities, a strong understanding of prototyping and construction, and proficiency in Alias, Rhino or Solidworks software. The ability to teach sketching and product visualization using the support of computers is essential.

Professor of Industrial Design - Interaction Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in industrial design with an emphasis on interaction design. Qualified candidates should have a terminal degree, or its equivalent in industrial design, product design, interaction design, or a related field. Candidates should have commercial and practical experience in developing innovative interface design for products and service. We seek applicants with a strong understanding of perceptual and cognitive human factors, GUI design, UCD, and rapid digital prototyping. Experience in Symbian OS, Java ME with an understanding of consumer-based interactive product design or information architecture of large-scale systems would be advantageous.

Professor of Marine Design / Naval Architecture
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a part-time professor to teach a course in marine design/naval architecture. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in naval architecture, marine engineering or a related field. The course covers the principals and theories of naval architecture and gives design students a basic understanding of how boats float and move. The course is 10 weeks in length with five contact hours of class time per week.



School of Film and Digital Media

Professor of Film and Television – Cinematography
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in the film and television department. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree, or its equivalent, in film and television or a related field. The person in this position will focus on areas of concentration which include film and digital cinematography and postproduction for film and television. The ideal candidate should have significant industry and teaching experience. Consideration will be given to candidates with extensive professional qualifications in specialized areas of the discipline of film and television.

Professor of Interactive Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position in interactive design for its Savannah location. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in interactive design, digital media design or a related field, as well as college-level teaching experience. Ideal candidates will have professional experience in developing interactive media for professional clients and installations in addition to a thorough knowledge of interactive media and Web technologies. Candidates should be flexible and able to teach a variety of subjects and levels, including foundation studies courses. Professor of Interactive Design and Game Development - Game Programming and Design
  The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for full-time faculty positions in game development. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in game development or a terminal degree and a minimum of three years experience in the game industry. Candidates should be able to teach in at least three or more of the following areas: C++, Java, database design, and game engine scripting/programming, game design, game design theory, level design. Familiarity with game prototyping tools, character and environment modeling and methods is advantageous.  Experience with one or more shipping game titles is preferred. Experience developing e-learning courses and/or teaching in an online format is desirable.


Professor of Sound Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates to fill a full-time faculty position in the area of sound design. Qualified candidates should have a terminal degree or its equivalent in sound design for media or infilm and video (with an audio emphasis). Candidates must have experience teaching the theory and practice of audio for media as well as specific courses in audio post-production. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of academic and professional experience.


Professor of Visual Effects: Compositing and Visual Effects Cinematography
The Savannah College of Art and Design is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty position in visual effects compositing and cinematography for its Savannah location. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in visual effects or a related field. Ideal candidates should have significant industry experience as well as a strong portfolio. Communication skills are critical to convey concepts to students of divergent experiences. College-level teaching experience in the classroom or through an online format and/or experience developing eLearning courses is desirable. Areas of focus for this position include:

Compositing — Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate an expert proficiency in the following areas: photorealistic compositing within a node-based professional compositing environment (e.g., Shake, Nuke or equivalent); digital matte painting and the integration of photographic elements with CG effects animation, characters and environments; supervisory experience including script breakdown and shot planning and postproduction project management; and a working familiarity with current tools and techniques of the visual effects industry.

Visual Effects Cinematography — Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated familiarity with the planning and execution of photographic elements for visual effects. These areas include script breakdown and detailed shot planning, essential camera operation, scene data collection, CG integration, miniature and forced-perspective photography, blue and green-screen photography, use of motion control technology, set protocol and the planning and construction of special effects rigs for visual effects. Candidates will be familiar with current trends and technological developments in visual effects image-gathering. On-set and location experience in a supervisory capacity is strongly desirable.



School of Liberal Arts

Chair of Art History
The Savannah College of Art and Design invites applications and nominations for the position of chair of the art history department. The art history department offers Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Arts degrees in art history, as well as minors in new media art and art history. The diverse background of the faculty allows for a rich curriculum in the history of art in Western and non-Western cultures from ancient through contemporary periods. The chair will assume a leadership role in working with colleagues in the department to further develop its academic objectives and to ensure excellence in teaching and scholarship within the department. The chair serves as the administrative officer of the department with responsibilities for the budget and personnel, and for the daily operation of the department, representing the department to the college and beyond. The chair also assists with the recruitment, development and retention of outstanding faculty, students and staff. Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in art history or a related field. Candidates should also possess a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship, success in advising students in art history, as well as success in creating a collaborative work environment.

Professor of Art History (Contemporary)
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for full-time faculty positions in contemporary art history. Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. in art history or a related field. Candidates must be qualified to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in contemporary art. Successful candidates will also teach Survey of Western Art I and II. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred.

Professor of Arts Administration
The Savannah College of Art and Design is seeking candidates for full-time faculty positions in arts administration. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in arts administration or a related field. Candidates must have expertise in at least three of the following areas: legal issues in arts administration, principles and practices in arts institutions, marketing, labor and employee relations, fundraising, and financial management. Experience in the arts administration field is desirable. Applicants must also have extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Experience developing e-learning courses and/or teaching in an online format is desirable.

Professor of Business, Management, and Entrepreneurship
SCAD-Atlanta is seeking candidates for a part-time faculty position to teach courses in business, management and entrepreneurship. Qualified candidates must have a terminal degree in business and/or management, as well as college-level teaching experience. The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels and may help develop courses in the areas of entrepreneurship, business law, finance, operations management and leasing, to further prepare the college's students. Qualified candidates must demonstrate teaching excellence in the areas of specialization associated with the position. Evidence of superior written and oral communication skills is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have a background in fashion marketing, merchandising and/or management.
