Off-campus Programs

Overview


SCAD off-campus programs enhance the total educational experience. Students earn degree credit while gaining a more global perspective on art, architecture and design. Students in all majors find sessions relevant to their career preparation and broaden their understanding of other cultures and societies.

Some programs focus on specific academic and studio disciplines, while others feature a variety of disciplines. Travel throughout the United States and around the world emphasizes artistic, historical and cultural experiences. Programs may combine independent study or internships with traditional coursework. Art capitals of the world are explored in depth, with side trips into the local countryside. Students in all majors find sessions relevant to their career preparation. Recent destinations have included Australia, China, Japan, London, Los Angeles and New York City.

Tuition

Tuition for off-campus courses is equal to that of other courses taken at SCAD. Additional program costs, including travel, housing and meals, vary according to program location and duration. Financial aid and scholarships are available.

Coursework

A focus on upper-level seminars promotes career preparation through interaction with working professionals. Sessions include study in contemporary art and design. Professionally-oriented seminars are offered within the exciting milieu of galleries, museums and theaters. Visits to agencies, showrooms and artists' studios, as well as special guest lectures, complement the coursework.

How to apply

  • Current SCAD students: Space for off-campus study is limited; obtain application materials at the office of off-campus programs in York Hall.
  • Prospective students: Those not currently attending SCAD must apply and be accepted to the college; a $50 nonrefundable application fee is required. Students at other colleges and universities may apply as transient students. Once admitted, students must then apply for acceptance to a specific program through the office of off-campus programs.

All applicants for off-campus study must submit a recommendation completed by a faculty member of their college or university. Incomplete application forms cannot be processed.
