Services
SCAD eLearning staff members assist students with all aspects of online education. They serve as a link between traditional university locations and online students living all around the world.
Staff members are available to answer questions, suggest resources and help connect online students to resources at SCAD that can best meet their needs. Peer tutoring and career services events also are hosted online for eLearning students.
MySCAD
SCAD eLearning students participate in a digital community that provides a forum through which they can participate in the life of the university. Through MySCAD, students access the online education center and the eLearning services channel, where they can read announcements, get the latest SCAD news, participate in discussion forums, create Web postings and access a wide range of university resources.
SCAD eLearning Club
The SCAD eLearning Club meets approximately every month, allowing distance learning students to meet via the university's online meeting software and view featured speakers from SCAD and the professional world. Club participation strengthens the online education community, bringing students from around the world closer to SCAD and its events. Online students are encouraged to communicate and socialize with their peers via course discussions, e-mail and the SCAD eLearning Club in order to form lasting friendships and networks.
Virtual Lecture Hall
The Virtual Lecture Hall is a digital video library of events, lectures and workshops that take place at SCAD locations, accessible to online students.
SCAD.tv offers access to webcasts, podcasts and other online-based media of signature events such as the
Savannah Film Festival, the annual
fashion show and the
Sidewalk Arts Festival. A variety of
student media outlets also are accessible online.
Student Success and Advising
At SCAD,
success advisers help students develop educational plans and career goals and relate these goals to academic offerings. Professional staff and faculty advisers assist SCAD eLearning students with their online education, helping them in course selection and professional development on a regular basis and help guide students toward fulfillment of the requirements for graduation.
Alumni and Career Success Services
SCAD students and
alumni benefit from an extensive array of
career services. Advisers provide individual guidance about course options, résumés, portfolios, interviews and job-search strategies. Workshops and classes cover entrepreneurship, branding, salary negotiation, socially responsible careers and more. Recognized national and international companies and organizations recruit SCAD students and alumni. These companies conduct job interviews, review portfolios, deliver presentations and participate in networking events with faculty and students. Over the past four years, more than 8 out of 10 SCAD alumni responding to a survey were employed in their fields or had been admitted to graduate school within six months of graduating.
Library services
SCAD libraries are focal points for information, learning, inspiration and research. The libraries contribute to every aspect of academic and intellectual life at SCAD by providing a broad range of services to students, faculty and staff. SCAD's online education format allows students to have access to many online and print materials that support the university's curriculum and cover a wide array of subjects. The libraries' extensive holdings include books, periodicals, DVDs, research databases, image databases, e-books and special collections of rare books, student theses and unique items.
SCAD eLearning students may borrow materials from the Savannah and Atlanta libraries through Inter-SCAD Loan by completing an
Interlibrary loan form. And if assistance is needed, eLearning students not located at a physical campus may contact the Jen Library of SCAD Savannah during current hours of operation.
One-on-one research help is also available via e-mail, telephone and IM chat.
SCAD Galleries and Exhibitions
The
SCAD exhibitions department is committed to artistic diversity, innovation and originality, and aims to provide an educational forum for current trends in contemporary art. SCAD students, professors and staff, regardless of location, have their work displayed in SCAD galleries.
Student counseling
Students may encounter challenging life experiences that interfere with the pursuit of their academic goals and/or personal growth. Disability services
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, SCAD offers educational services that provide equal opportunity for people with disabilities. Students must provide documentation of their disability. The office of disability services has adopted the ADA definition of disability: "Disability defined is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual" (ADA, 1990). All reasonable accommodations are determined for students on an individual basis. In order to receive academic adjustments and/or reasonable accommodations, students must make appointments with the disability services coordinator each term to make their specific accommodation requests known. For more information, call 912.525.6971 or e-mail the
disability services office.
Deaf services
The deaf services department assists hearing-impaired or deaf students in effectively communicating with other students, faculty and staff. Staff members meet with students to evaluate their communication needs; register students for classes; coordinate interpreting schedules; recruit, hire, train and supervise staff interpreters; provide interpreting services for staff and extracurricular activities; and provide in-service training for faculty and staff utilizing interpreters.
