ATLANTA, Georgia - SCAD Atlanta will be one of the hosts for Global Game Jam 2012, held Jan. 27-29, for game development students in the Central Georgia region.
The Global Game Jam, organized by the
International Game Developers Association, is an annual weekend event in which participants form small groups to design and create digital and non-digital games than present them to industry leaders. In January 2011, the event attracted teams in 44 countries creating more than 1,500 games in a weekend.
"Global Game Jam is a great opportunity to showcase the university's talented students and their work with local game developers," said Tony Tseng, Interactive Design and Game Development professor. "This competition offers another great learning experience to prepare students for professional careers in gaming."
The event kicks off Friday, Jan. 27, with presentations and workshops featuring industry leaders from Microsoft, Hi-Rez Studios, Mowgli Games, Kaneva and Eyes Wide Games.
SCAD Savannah also will host their
Global Game Jam the same weekend. Participants can register online at Global Game Jam and the fee is $20 payable at the door with cash only.
This year sponsors include Eyes Wide Game, Coca-Cola, Kaneva, Tripwire Interactive, Hi-Rez Studios & Songster and Mowgli Games.
In 2011, SCAD's interactive design and game development graduate degree program ranked eighth by The Princeton Review's second annual list saluting the best schools in the United States and Canada to study video game design. The undergraduate degree program earned an honorable mention.
