SAVANNAH, Georgia - Sarah Adams, SCAD eLearning professor of graphic design
and alumna (B.F.A., graphic design, 2004; M.F.A., graphic design, 2006), has been named Outstanding Distance Learning Faculty by the Instructional Technology Council. The ITC, the international organization representing institutions offering distance education courses, has also recognized Adams as a Distinguished Educator.
According to the citation, Adams "provided extraordinary engagement and student support, and employed creative solutions to meet the needs of working students with unusual and varying study times."
"I am honored to be recognized by the ITC Network," Adams said. "While using Adobe Connect, Blackboard IM, interactive PDFs and engaging discussion boards are an essential part of eLearning
, the other part is just as crucial - my drive to see each student succeed while also ensuring their understanding and ability to grow."
She was also noted for her "effective use of different multimedia options to connect with her classes, and to incorporate professional skills and tools into her course content." Adams was also commended her for the use of "weekly 'connect' sessions to bring classes together to review their work, and [using] audio recording to provide live critiques to students to build a strong community and strong communication skills."
"I strive to make a personal connection with each student that not only lasts for 10 weeks, but longer," Adams said. "Thanks again to SCAD for allowing me to fulfill my dream of teaching as I look forward every morning to working and meeting with students and watching them grow through technological advances and personal attention."
Adams began teaching at SCAD in 2007. In addition to her work with the university, Adams runs her own graphic design business in the Albany, Georgia area, Imagine That! Solutions, Inc.
