SAVANNAH, Ga.-The Savannah College of Art and Design's interior design department announces that it will screen "Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman" at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at SCAD's Trustees Theater, 216 East Broughton St. The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the film's director, Eric Bricker. The event is free and open to the public.

Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, "Visual Acoustics" celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, the world's greatest architectural photographer, whose images brought modern architecture to the American mainstream. Shulman, who passed away in 2009, captured the work of nearly every major modern and progressive architect from the 1930s onward, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry. His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California's modernist movement and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. This unique film is both a testament to the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of the magnetic, whip-smart gentleman who chronicled it with his unforgettable images.

"Visual Acoustics" won the Mercedes-Benz Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize at the Lone Star International Film Festival and Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking from the Newport Beach Film Festival.

Bricker made his directorial debut with "Visual Acoustics." His passion for filmmaking grew out of a background in art, theater and music, including a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and theater from Indiana University and acting stints with both the California Repertory Company and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Once in Los Angeles, Eric turned his focus toward film and television production, working with such notable talent as Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin and Danny Aiello. Bricker also nourished his artistic interests by creating an art consultation firm, called Artistic Designs Unlimited. He currently has several other projects in development, including two documentary features and a narrative feature, through his company, Kaleidoscope Mediaworks.

SCAD offers one of the largest and most professionally engaged interior design programs in the United States. Students benefit from the expertise of full-time professors, who hold terminal degrees in the field and share a common belief that a holistic educational framework guides future professional development and inspires life-long learning. The interior design program challenges students to become innovative designers who are capable of critical thinking and effective communication. Professional ethics and values are stressed within the context of social, environmental and global design practice.

SCAD's interior design program leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at both the Atlanta and Savannah locations is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). CIDA's accreditation affirms that SCAD's interior design program meets or exceeds the rigorous standards of CIDA and ensures that SCAD interior design graduates are prepared to enter professional practice.
