Student exhibition reception highlights work from Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong and eLearning programs
SAVANNAH, Georgia - The
Savannah College of Art and Design photography department hosts its fourth annual Silver & Ink lecture and panel discussion series and exhibition at the River Club, 3 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., April 28-30. Events celebrating all aspects of commercial and fine art photography are free and open to the public.
Highly regarded for her documentary work worldwide,
keynote speaker Debbie Fleming Caffery has documented the Louisiana sugar cane harvesting for 39 years with a book published by the Smithsonian Press, "Carry Me Home." The book was written in conjunction with a one-person show at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. In addition to Fleming Caffery's many publications, her work is included in numerous collections - the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
The public is also invited to join an array of talented professionals as they share their experiences and provide advice on self-promotion for emerging commercial, independent and editorial photographers. Scheduled speakers and panelists include
photographer Shane Lavalette; independent curator and consultant Jim Fitts; Photo District News photo editor Amber Terranova; Greenhouse Reps principal Gary Hurewitz; and National Geographic photojournalist Karen Kasmauski.
In addition to the public offerings, Silver & Ink provides SCAD students and alumni the opportunity to receive one-on-one portfolio reviews from artists, gallerists, critics and creative professionals. 2011 Silver & Ink will culminate with a student exhibition 6-9 p.m. April 30. Visit
