SAVANNAH, Georgia - On Friday, May 6, the Savannah College of Art and Design held its annual
Sand Arts Festival on Tybee Island, where thousands of visitors viewed temporary sand art masterpieces created by SCAD students on the island's north beach. Hundreds of SCAD students competed for $5,000 in cash prizes.
The following is a list of first place winners:
Sand Sculpture
- First place: "Sand Monster," Capucine Gros, painting, Shanghai, China
Sand Castle
- First place: "Castle over the gorge," Ann Winbray, architecture, Farmington, New Mexico; Timothy Markwardt, architecture, Glen Mills, Pennsylvania
Sand Relief
- First place: "King Tut," Ryan Coster, B.F.A., animation, 2011, Calabash, North Carolina; Brandon Loving, illustration, Lees Summit, Missouri
Wind Sculpture
Gray's Reef Underwater Sea Creature Contest
- First place: "Friendship," Shirley Shum, animation, Cayey, Puerto Rico; Siwachat Sing-To, animation, Pakchong, Thailand.
