SAVANNAH, Georgia - The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Momentary Suspension," a solo show featuring a new site-specific cut-paper installation that features watercolors and two-dimensional studies by internationally renowned artist Andreas Kocks. The exhibition exemplifies the frozen moments captured in his acclaimed "paperworks" that suspend dynamically from the gallery walls.

"Each body of work on view at SCAD - the studies, watercolors and wall installation - capture similar energies on different levels, from the more contained and intimate to those that span the gallery wall," said Kocks.  Appearing as splatters of paint tossed at the wall, the imagery visually belies the artist's careful process of situating the piece in architectural space.

"Andreas Kocks' intricate wall installations activate and transform space, responding uniquely to the gallery architecture. It's an honor to host 'Momentary Suspension' at three SCAD locations - Lacoste, Atlanta and now Savannah - and to witness the organic changes that will result in each exhibition venue," said SCAD's assistant curator Stephanie Greene. Kocks was born in Germany and earned an M.F.A. in sculpture from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1989, an M.A. in education from the University of Düsseldorf in 1987, and a B.F.A. in integration of fine art and architecture from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1987. His work has been featured in recent solo exhibitions, including "Scattered," Sebastian Fath Contemporary, Mannheim, Germany, in 2010; "Current Events," Winston Wächter Fine Art, New York, New York, in 2009; "Paperworks," Neue Werkstätten, Munich, Germany, in 2008; and "INstallation," Papermuseum Lenningen, Lenningen, Germany, in 2005. One of Kocks' "Paperworks" installations was included in the 2009-10 group show "Slash: Paper Under the Knife" at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York. Kocks received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2006. He lives in Munich, Germany, and New York, New York.
