SAVANNAH, Ga.—The Savannah College of Art and Design’s innovative product development venture, Working Class Studio, announces the launch of its Spring 2010 collections. With form and function always in mind, the studio’s student and alumni artists have created unique home décor and stylish gift products for the new year.

“We are very excited to introduce these new collections,” says Jessica Pope, sales and marketing manager of Working Class Studio. “Our latest offerings include three new lines of chic indoor/outdoor pillows, a must-have collection of kitchen accessories featuring a contemporary toile pattern, and an assortment of humorous stationery items.”

The studio also is making efforts to introduce greener, more Earth-friendly components into its product line by utilizing recycled materials and natural inks.

“Our new stationery collections are all printed using soy ink on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper,” says Pope. “And our new outdoor pillow inserts, which we offer with all new Working Class Studio pillow collections, are made from recycled soda bottles.”

The Savannah Toile Collection

Not your grandmother’s toile, this fresh, modern take on a familiar classic features scenes from the oak-lined, Spanish Moss-draped squares of historic Savannah, Georgia, home of SCAD and Working Class Studio. Designed by Morena Guzman (M.F.A., fibers and industrial design, 2006), Savannah Toile items are available in four rich hues—burnt scarlet, gecko, mustard and teal. Great for hostess gifts, the Savannah Toile collection includes a stylish apron, pot holder, oven mitt and tea towels, all made with resilient, machine-washable cotton twill. Also in this collection are the Savannah Toile pillows that feature full-surround piping and a hidden zipper closure.

The Sarah Collection Pillows

Inspired by the enchanting décor and ornamentation of the Mediterranean, this bold pillow collection evokes the opulent colors and inviting textures of both sea and sand. Designed by Sarah Mandernacht (B.F.A., illustration, 2009), the Sarah Collection includes three coordinating designs—Aegean, Cyprus and Ionian—in a rich teal, gecko and espresso palette. Pillows are made with durable, machine-washable canvas.

Cassie Collection Pillows

You don’t have to be a night owl to enjoy the company of these fine, feathered friends. Flora and fauna never looked so good—indoors and out. Designed by Cassie Hart (B.F.A., illustration, 2009), the Cassie Collection includes three coordinating designs—Bloom, Hatch and Owl—featuring a mix of soothing geckos, cool slate grays, and vibrant pops of burnt scarlet and night. Each design is available in two colorways. Pillows are made with durable, machine-washable canvas.

The Catherine Collection Note Cards

Finally—a card that lets you say what you want to say! Designed by Catherine Kane (graduate fibers student), this six-card folded note card collection gives you the chance to express yourself with your own appropriate (or inappropriate) adjectives, nouns and verbs. Be as sweet, sincere or naughty as you want to be—the possibilities are endless. Perfect for any occasion, these cards will leave your friends and family impressed not only by your thoughtfulness, but by your extensive vocabulary as well.

The Amber Collection Note Cards

Celebrate any occasion—big or small—with these quirky and cute note cards designed by Amber Rene Chance (graduate illustration student). With life’s trials, milestones and everyday events in mind, each of these eight folded cards features a front illustration and a witty related phrase.

The Just Because Collection Note Cards

Need to say thank you for a gift? Miss your best friend? Just feel like giving a postal pat on the back? Celebrate everyday, not-so special events with this oh-so special six-card collection. Designed by a duo of talented Working Class Studio interns—Amber Rene Chance (graduate illustration student) and Shawnna Marie Lyons (B.F.A., fibers, 2009)—the Just Because Collection features flat note cards with clever sayings and unique illustrations that are sure to help get your message across.
