SAVANNAH, Ga.—The Savannah College of Art and Design’s innovative product development venture, Working Class Studio, announces the
launch of its Fall and Holiday 2010 collections. With form and function always in mind, the studio’s student and alumni artists have once again
created an assortment of unique home décor and stylish gift products for the season, including a fresh grouping of colorful journals and
sketchbooks, an extension to the always popular Re-Gift Collection, and a new line of kitchen accents and accessories.
All new Working Class Studio products will debut at this summer’s upcoming gift and home furnishing shows, including the Total Home &
Gift Market in Dallas, the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, Chicago Market: Living and Giving, the Canadian Gift and
Tableware Association Show, the New York International Gift Fair, and the Seattle Gift Show. See below for more information regarding show
dates as well as showroom and booth information.
The Nicole Collection Planter Set
Pop a cork in celebration of sustainability—literally. Designed by Nicole Runde (B.F.A., furniture design, 2010), this modern planter set is made
entirely of durable, high-density tan cork. Naturally watertight and resistant to both mold and mildew, these planters are aptly sized for succulents and miniature cacti, small ferns and houseplants, and a variety of herbs. And talk about a versatile design—the planter also doubles as an inventive office organizer that can be used to hold pencils and pens, keep notes handy and in view, or as a pair of smart bookends. Each cork piece includes a removable polystyrene insert that can be washed and reused.
Kathleen Collection Lamp Shade
Recycling that is simply music to the … eyes?!? What once sounded great (or maybe not so great) now finds itself singing a new tune as a retromeets- modern lamp shade. Designed by Kathleen Scudder (B.F.A., graphic design, 2010), this unique spherical lamp shade is made from repurposed laser-cut album jackets. Each shade is threaded with elastic cording and soft felt spacers for easy access to light source, and a perforated steel drum allows for a gentle diffusion of light. Shade may be fitted to any standard pendant, swag or table lamp fixture; for desk or tabletop use, a stick lamp is suggested. Color scheme and recording artists vary per lamp.
Hostess Collection
Featuring the playful floral-inspired designs of John Hiemenz (B.F.A., graphic design, 2009; graduate advertising student) and Abby Hyslop (B.F.A., fibers, 2008), the Hostess Collection will inspire and delight even the most gracious of hosts. A perfect gift for the chic chef in your life, each Hostess Collection set includes an apron, pot holder, oven mitt and two tea towels made with resilient machine-washable cotton twill. The collection also includes coordinating pillows featuring hidden zipper closures and full-surround piping. Each design is available in two distinct colorways.
Journals and Sketchbooks
Ignite your creative spark with Working Class Studio journals. Printed using soy ink on post-consumer-waste recycled paper, these journals and
sketchbooks are a great place to stow your sweetest dreams, darkest secrets and highest hopes. Available in 10 distinct patterns by various SCAD artists.
Re-Gift Collection Boxes, Bags and Stationery
Just in time for the holidays, Working Class Studio is pleased to introduce its new assortment of Re-Gift patterns and colors. Fun, fresh and always festive, these reusable boxes and bags make gift giving easy. Re-Gift boxes can be used (and reused) as gift boxes, colorful home storage containers, or chic accents to your living and work space. Boxes include a coordinating hang tag ideal for gift labels and content identification. Re-Gift fabric bags are made with durable natural cotton and a reinforced bottom for added support that makes them perfect as gift bags or stylish totes.
Also new this season are the Re-Gift Collection note cards. Great for holiday wishes, special occasion notes and everyday use, Re-Gift note cards coordinate with the full collection of Re-Gift boxes and gift bags. Cards are printed with soy ink on 100-percent post-consumer-waste recycled
paper. Collection designs by the late Ben Morris (SCAD professor of fashion) and Abby Hyslop (B.F.A., fibers, 2008).
Puffy Frames: New Colors!
Our perennial favorite is now available in three new colors—blue, pink and night. Designed by Ashley Olson (B.F.A., fibers, 2007) and Cindy Barlow (M.F.A., interior design, 2007), the Working Class Studio puffy frame is a stylish accent to any décor and is perfect for posters, framed art and photos, lightweight mirrors and more. Frames are easily suspended with a top-mounted grosgrain ribbon, and artwork is securely held in place with four durable elastic corner tabs. For heavier objects, simply slip the elastic corner tabs over an already wall-mounted object. Available in two sizes and seven distinct colors.
