SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design's School of Liberal Arts announces its latest lecture, "Reading, Writing, and Rock 'n Roll" by Mark Edmundson. The talk will take place at SCAD's Arnold Hall Auditorium, 1810 Bull St., Thursday, May 20, 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Edmundson will discuss his latest, forthcoming book, "The Fine Wisdom and Perfect Teachings of the Kings of Rock and Roll," and his previous work, "Why Read?" He will weave together his own experiences, as a high-school student and as a college graduate, to discuss the joys and merits of reading. His wit, personal narrative and unusual trajectory into academia will undoubtedly be provocative, entertaining and inspiring.
Mark Edmundson, Ph.D. is University Professor of English at the University of Virginia. His published works include "Literature Against Philosophy" (1995), "Plato to Derrida: A Defence of Poetry" (1995), "Teacher: The One Who Made the Difference" (2002), and "Why Read?" (2004). His new work, "The Fine Wisdom and Perfect Teachings of the Kings of Rock and Roll: A Memoir," will be published soon.
