Jarrett Williams’ “Super Pro K.O.!” enters market as a top seller
SAVANNAH, Ga.—SCAD alumnus Jarrett Williams (B.F.A., sequential art, 2006, M.F.A., sequential art, 2010) recently released his first graphic novel, “Super Pro K.O.!” which hit the coveted ‘Top 300 Graphic Novels” list at number 210 — and is rising fast. His book tops titles starring such comic stalwarts as The Hulk, X-Men and Batman.
Williams both wrote and drew “Super Pro K.O!” Currently a Recruitment Coordinator for SCAD, Williams signed a five-book deal with Oni Press, one of the most successful independent comic book publishers in the country, and publisher of the hugely successful comic series, Scott Pilgrim, which was recently made into a feature film, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”
Bryan Lee O’Malley, creator of Scott Pilgrim, declares, “Jarrett Williams is a towering inferno of comics.” Newsarama.com, the comic book website, says that “’Super Pro K.O.!’ will win over fans through its balance of humor and heart…[it’s a book that] comes out on top.”
“Super Pro K.O.!” is the adventures of Joe Somiano, a young, naïve, wanna-be professional wrestler and the colorful cast of characters he surrounds himself with, including a seasoned sumo wrestler, a jolly Mexican wrestler, a flamboyant tag team, suspicious executives and a tipsy heavyweight champ.
"It's been great to see that others have been getting a kick out of ‘Super Pro K.O.!’” said Williams. “I love the idea that a kid will find my book in a library and grow up reading my stories.”
“I’ve been fortunate because SCAD allowed me to meet many influential sequential artists in the field,” continues Williams. “Now as a working professional in the field, I feel overly-prepared for all of the challenges I encounter on a daily basis. I truly understand how my industry works, and that's a testament to how strong SCAD's sequential arts program really is."
Having recently returned from Comic-Con in San Diego, Willliams is preparing for a Spring book tour, which will take him from coast to coast.
