SCAD joins with U.S. Consulate to sponsor industry reception

HONG KONG—SCAD, the most comprehensive art and design university in the world, is pleased to announce its role as an official partner of the 14th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART), a highly regarded annual event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), now through March 25. FILMART serves as an influential trade platform that enables U.S. exhibitors, regional distributors, international investors, and local and overseas producers to meet and interact. SCAD also is the official education partner for the festival’s Asian Digital Competition.

An opening cocktail reception exclusively supported by SCAD is planned for March 24 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. U.S. Consul General Stephen Young will welcome special guest Nancy Kwan, the first Chinese actress to achieve fame in Western cinema from her unforgettable starring role in "The World of Suzie Wong" in addition to U.S. exhibitors at Filmart and representatives from SCAD Hong Kong. Other guests at the event include representatives from Create Hong Kong and Hong Kong’s Commerce and Economic Development Bureau; local and overseas buyers and filmmakers; industry professionals; and visitors from all over the world.

“The U.S. Consulate is pleased that SCAD, one of the leading art and design universities in the United States, is bringing its world‐class digital media education to Hong Kong to prepare talented students for professional careers,” said Matthew Dolbow, spokesman for the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong. “SCAD will help nurture the next generation of local artists and designers for Hong Kong’s growing creative industries, helping Hong Kong become the ‘creative gateway’ to Asia.”

SCAD is launching SCAD Hong Kong at the former North Kowloon Magistracy Building in September 2010. Courses of study are registered with the Hong Kong Education Bureau and focus on digital media, including advertising, animation, graphic design, illustration, interactive design and game development, motion media design, photography and visual effects. The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SCAD Hong Kong will offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees, pending SACS approval.

SCAD is currently accepting applications for admission. Applications to SCAD Hong Kong and the other SCAD locations in Savannah or Atlanta, Georgia, are available online.

SCAD recently launched SCAD Gallery, an art gallery and admission information center, at 2/F, 30‐32 Wyndham Street, Central in Hong Kong. SCAD admission representatives are available by appointment at SCAD Gallery from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday‐Saturday to answer questions about admission to the university. E‐mail to make an appointment.
