ATLANTA – The Savannah College of Art and Design announces its collaboration with this year’s AJC Decatur Book Festival, which takes place Sept. 3-5. Students from the writing program at the university’s Atlanta location will present their creative nonfiction works as part of the festival, Sept. 5, 1:15 p.m., at Eddie’s Attic, 515 North McDonough St., Decatur, Georgia.
The readings will showcase the works of SCAD students Kerry Burke, Tamara Joyner and Allie Jemison. SCAD also will be an exhibitor at the festival’s book market and street fair. SCAD admission representatives, writing professors, staff from
SCAD’s Ivy Hall Writing Center, and
shopSCAD—a unique gallery store that exclusively features the artwork and designs of students, faculty, staff and alumni—will be on hand to provide information about SCAD and its academic programs.
Ivy Hall, built in 1883 by the family of Edward C. Peters, is one of Atlanta's finest examples of Victorian architecture in the Queen Anne style. SCAD acquired the property in 2005 with the goal of painstakingly renovating the home to its former glory. Reopened in October 2008, Ivy Hall now houses SCAD’s writing program and hosts the
Ivy Hall Writers Series—one of Atlanta’s premier literary events.
The
SCAD writing program offers B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in writing at SCAD’s Atlanta and Savannah locations through the School of Liberal Arts. The program offers instruction in a wide range of genres, including creative nonfiction, fiction, magazine journalism, new media writing, writing for business, and writing for nonprofit. All writing students benefit from a foundation in visual art, which makes them better writers and artists, and in design and computer applications to help prepare them for professional careers working with multi-media and new media content.
