SCAD announces schedule of events for Sidewalk Arts Festival 2009

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah College of Art and Design announces this year's lineup of events for the annual Sidewalk Arts Festival. The Sidewalk Arts Festival will draw thousands of visitors to view temporary chalk masterpieces created on the sidewalks of historic Forsyth Park, Savannah, Ga. Sidewalk Arts Festival participants represent SCAD's many areas of study; different artistic styles are inspired by different cultures, interests and disciplines. The festival will take place Saturday, April 25, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The 2009 Sidewalk Festival will begin at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public. The children's area will be open 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and its theme this year will be "The Wizard of Oz."  The space, located near the park's playground, will include sidewalk drawing areas for young artists, arts and crafts tables that reflect this year's theme, and much more.

At 2 p.m., SCAD will present the 30 Pearls Parade in celebration of its 30th anniversary. The parade will travel through Forsyth Park during the arts festivities. The chalk art competition winners will be announced at 4 p.m.

Food and refreshments will be available for sale at the festival and will include offerings from select local vendors and Coca-Cola.

In addition to the activities the day of, the SCAD Sidewalk Festival is also hosting Films in Forsyth at 8 p.m., April 23-25. All of the films are free and open to the public and will include "From Russia with Love" on Thursday, April 23; "The Wizard of Oz" on Friday, April 24; and "Finding Nemo" on Saturday, April 25.
