A new furniture floor at Bloomingdale's in New York City features a celebration of art and design with a showcase of furniture by Natuzzi Italy, styling by Metropolitan Home, and artwork by Savannah College of Art and Design alumni, students and faculty.
The event kicked off Feb. 19 and pieces were exhibited until March 1. Natuzzi Italy, celebrating its 50th anniversary, designed its new collection with an artistic sensibility, which, along with the idea that each group of furnishings should be displayed in "total living concepts," led to the partnership with SCAD and Metropolitan Home.
"Each item is seen as a work of art," said Tod Craft, vice president of sales and marketing for Natuzzi Italy. "When we fashioned our 2009 collection for an exclusive display at Bloomingdale's, we thought of it as an exhibition of art for the home."
Natuzzi Italy's premium leather collection was displayed alongside coordinating Natuzzi home décor and works of art from SCAD. Each piece of art was chosen based on its inspiration from, and synergy with, the Natuzzi groups.
"This was an amazing opportunity, to be able to partner art from our talented students and instructors with the stunning Natuzzi collections," said Antonio Larosa, chair of the SCAD furniture design department. "Excellent design in all its forms is something to be celebrated and appreciated. This project offers attainable art and fashion for the home, through furnishings, accessories and paintings."
