ATLANTA–In the continuing effort to prepare students for creative careers, SCAD has volunteered to help Carter Barnes launch Beauty Boost. On Monday, Dec. 14, the Phipps Plaza salon will give 250 people in need services including free haircuts, color and styles.
Faculty and students have donated their time to create the brand identity and photograph the lucky few after they leave the stylists’ chair. Under the art direction of Associate Chair of Graphic Design Henry Hongmin Kim, Meg McClelland (M.F.A Graphic Design) illustrated the whimsical design campaign, which includes everything from the window display and web design to the t-shirts and tissue paper for the gift bags.
“This project was one of the best ways to learn and experience the true meaning of being a visual communicator,” says professor Kim. “It is such an exciting moment when we can help others with our talent. It is even better when a teacher can share this value with students outside the classroom.”
On the day of the event, photography professors Forest McMullin and Judith Pishnery will lead of team of students to capture the winners’ new look. The SCAD team will also produce a CD of images for them to help with their job search or just remember their special day.
"When my company decided to have an event benefiting the community of Atlanta, SCAD was my first choice for a partner,” says Carey Carter, co-owner of Carter Barnes. “I have worked with SCAD for five years and their level of creativity, professionalism, and enthusiasm is unparalleled. The work from the team of students, faculty and staff always exceeds my expectations.”
