On Friday, Feb. 20, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Savannah College of Art and Design students and alumni can demonstrate their professional savvy at the annual SCAD Career Fair. Held at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, the Career Fair attracts dozens of industry-leading companies that are seeking SCAD students and graduates for internship and professional opportunities. Participation is free to the SCAD community. Free buses and ferry transportation to the trade center also will be available.

So far, more than 50 companies have committed to attend the fair. The list includes industry powerhouses such as Apple Inc., Carmichael Lynch, Carter's, Chico's FAS, Coach, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Digital Domain, Fisher-Price, GMK Associates, HDR, HOK, JCPenney, Kohl's, Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, mediabarn, Mohawk Industries, Nickelodeon Animation Studios, Target and Urban Outfitters.

Savannah- and Atlanta-based companies recruiting include Gensler, Green Olive Media, Gulfstream Aerospace, Kiz Toys, Miller Zell, Perkins+Will, Radical Axis, the Telfair Museum of Art, The South magazine and WTOC.

To help students prepare for the Career Fair, the career services office is holding a number of workshops and seminars in the weeks leading up to the event.

At SCAD-Atlanta, students can get a quick check of their résumés on Thursdays throughout winter quarter at The Hub. Students also can attend two "How to Work a Career Fair" workshops to learn strategies for making the most of the SCAD Career Fair. SCAD-Atlanta has reserved buses for students who want to attend the Career Fair in Savannah Feb. 20, which are free to all SCAD-Atlanta students.

In Savannah, the career services office is holding "Ready, Set, Review" workshops where career services staff and faculty from each school help students prepare their résumés and portfolios for the Career Fair. And on Feb. 18, graphic design alumna Kate Aronowitz will deliver the presentation "How to Use Social Networking for Career Success" at the Red Gallery. Aronowitz is director of design and user interface at Facebook.

Official Career Fair activities kick off Thursday, Feb. 19, with a networking reception from 6-8 p.m. at Trustees' Garden. Students can talk with employers, professors and alumni to find out about the industry and what their companies are looking for in successful candidates. After the reception, noted millennial generation speaker Alexandra Levit will offer insight into career issues for 20-somethings. She will give free copies of her latest book, "How'd You Score That Gig: A Guide to the Coolest Jobs," to the first 100 attendees.

Besides the opportunity to meet with dozens of employers, the Career Fair also will feature an Arts and Business Seminar Series. Seminars include: How to Start a Business and Create a Business Plan, Artist's Agents Panel, Financial Smarts for Artists and Designers, and Fundraising for Artists. And from 9-10:30 a.m., the School of Building Arts is holding an Alumni Career Panel for interested students.
