Published: Jan 19, 2009

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah College of Art and Design hosts the 2009 SCADDY Awards presentation ceremony Saturday, Jan. 24, 6:30 p.m., at the Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St.

More than 100 of the top student submissions are displayed now through Jan. 25 at the SCADDY Awards exhibition at the Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. An exhibition closing reception at 5:30 p.m. will precede the Jan. 24 awards ceremony.

Tickets for the reception and awards presentation ceremony are $6 and are available at the SCAD Box Office, 216 E. Broughton Street, by phone at 912.525.5050 or online.

In what is perhaps one of the nation's largest college-level advertising awards show, the SCADDY Awards competition challenged SCAD students from all majors to work independently or in a collaborative effort to produce award-winning advertisements from several categories including package design, online advertising, direct marketing and advertising copywriting.

The competition celebrates the project collaboration among hundreds of emerging writers, art directors, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, filmmakers, animators and more.

A panel of independent advertising professionals judged more than 1800 submissions during the December 2008 break. For each category, two awards may be given: a Gold SCADDY and a Silver SCADDY. Gold and Silver winners will be announced and awarded at the show.

SCADDY Award-winning work goes on to be entered into the ADDY Awards, the advertising industry's largest and most respected international competition, and can advance from local to regional and national-level competitions.

In 2007 alumnus Ryan Duhaime, a SCAD visual effects and broadcast design and motion graphics student at the time, was honored locally, regionally and nationally for his animated television commercial for the Toyota Prius.

At the SCADDY Awards ceremony, Duhaime won Gold SCADDYs for best commercial and best animation as well as the SCADDY Best in Show.

He went on to win Gold ADDYs and another Best in Show award from the Savannah Advertising Federation, as well as Gold ADDYs from the regional competition. In June 2007, Duhaime's Prius commercial garnered Gold and Silver awards at the AAF National Student ADDY Awards-the highest honors in the entire competition.
