SCAD showcases famous works on paper and offers printmaking demonstration

Published: Aug 26, 2008

SAVANNAH, Ga. - World-class works on paper by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Henri Matisse and Joan Miro will be on display and available for purchase at the Savannah College of Art and Design during the "Modern Masters" exhibition, held Sept. 2-22 at Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. An opening reception and printmaking demonstration will be held in the gallery Sept. 4, 6-7:30 p.m.

Original lithographs, etchings, aquatints, linocuts and engravings are among the treasures available for purchase. SCAD printmaking professor Eun Sook Lee will provide demonstrations and explanations of printmaking techniques during the opening reception.

"This is a rare opportunity for the community to purchase world-class artworks that will be handed down from generation to generation," said Laurie Ann Farrell, executive director of exhibitions at SCAD. "Prints enabled artists to distribute art to a wider audience than paintings alone."

"Modern Masters" offers an excellent opportunity for SCAD to showcase world-class works of art to students and the local community. The exhibition is coordinated in conjunction with Titus Fine Arts, Tom Mauldin and Raymond Levin. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-4 p.m.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.scadexhibitions.com, or call 912.525.4727. Media may call 912.525.4745.
