New York, N.Y. - Working Class Studio, the product development venture of the Savannah College of Art and Design, is expanding its home décor and stationery lines with new merchandise. The studio will present two new dinnerware collections, a series of pillow-like puffy frames, and four collections of paperboard coasters at the New York International Gift Fair, Aug. 17-22, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. All new products will debut in Booth 4141 in the juried Accent on Design division.
Expanding on the success of its melamine lines, Working Class Studio will introduce two new collections, consisting of dinner and salad plates, bowls, glass tumblers and charger plates. The first collection showcases the work of late SCAD professor and distinguished illustrator Ben Morris, featuring whimsical, retro-inspired fruit and vegetable graphics as well as squiggle pattern and painterly stripe designs. The second collection, created by SCAD alumna and student Kay Wolfersperger (B.F.A., graphic design, 2005; B.F.A. student in fibers), is designed with layered circle and geometric patterns in various colors. The wholesale prices for both collections range from $2 to $7.
Also new from Working Class Studio are four collections of coasters made with absorbent 60-point natural paperboard. Available in round and square shapes, these colorful coasters help to keep wood and other fine surfaces safe from stains. One collection features work by Morris. The others were designed by SCAD alumni Jesse Walker (B.F.A., graphic design, 2008), Kristen Monacell (B.F.A., fashion, 2008), Christie Pedder (B.F.A., graphic design, 2008), and SCAD fibers student Christina Latina. The wholesale price is $24 per case pack.
The new plush puffy frames, designed by SCAD alumna Ashley Olson (B.F.A., fibers, 2007), provide a finishing touch to mirrors, posters, artwork and photos. The rectangle and square frames, which come in various colors, are suspended with a strong, top-mounted grosgrain ribbon, and artwork is held securely in place with four durable elastic corner tabs. The wholesale price is $25 for a square frame and $35 for a rectangle frame.
