Motion Media Design

Motion media designers work at the intersection of the on-air promotion, advertising, and content production industries and kinetic abstract art. They craft communications using the principles and tools of the filmmaker, the graphic designer, the animator and the interactive media designer. Their time-based work creates an illusion of motion and transformation.

At SCAD, motion media design students collaborate with students in graphic design, film and television, production design, visual effects, sound design and interactive design to complete professional quality productions and innovative works of fine art.

The undergraduate course of study leads to proficiency in the creation of a network design package, main title, commercial, and professional portfolio.

Graduate students pursue theoretical and methodological studies, in addition to further developing their professional design skills and techniques, enabling them to realize their potential as leaders in both practice and academia.

Students learn on the same 2-D, 3-D and compositing tools used throughout the profession: Adobe CS5 Master Collection, Final Cut Studio, Autodesk Maya and Cinema 4D, among others.

SCAD hosts symposia and lectures where students exchange creative ideas in broadcast design, motion graphics and media art. Industry experts present lectures, show innovative professional work and share experiences.
