Housing degrees such as Animation, Motion Media, Interactive Design and Game Development, Visual Effects, Television Producing, and Film and Television, this building contains tech from top to bottom, including Game Resource Library, Live Television Studio, Film Studio, Two Green screens, Avid Editing lab and suites, Maker Lab, Stop Motion Shooting Stages, Motion Capture Lab, Sound Recording Studio, Foley Sound Stage, Screening Theater and PC/Mac computer classrooms. Join Professor Kent Knowles on a walking tour of Midtown Atlanta to explore some of Atlanta’s architectural treasures that include a broad array of 20th century styles from the Romanesque Revival of Rhodes Hall to Renzo Piano's Hi-Tech addition to Richard Meier's High Museum. Students will stop and sketch these marvelous examples of architectural history. Sketchbooks and drawing materials will be provided.

Illustration Professor Tony Rodriguez demonstrates basic techniques using Adobe Photoshop to make illustrations move using his acclaimed illustrations that have graced the pages of publications such as Rolling Stone.

Capturing Guo Pei | SCAD FASH
Join Fashion Professor Dejan Agatonovic as he shares techniques to illustrate the luxurious garments created by Guo Pei. Students will view the amazing details that adorn garments such as those featured in the film, “The Monkey King.” Sketchbooks and drawing materials will be provided.

Discover the groundbreaking project SCADpad, a prototype community that expands new possibilities for micro-housing with Professor Liset Robinson. SCAD students gave each micro dwelling a unique visual identity while maximizing the functionality of the space. Join us as we explore the design of SCADpad and create a mood board for your own design.

On your Mark | 517C printmaking studio
Join Printmaking Professor Robert Brown as he shares techniques used in monotype printmaking. Explore ways to create images that can be transferred to paper, as well as a range of other pliable materials. These processes are used by painters, photographers, illustrators, as well as graphic designers and can be applied to an ever-expanding list of disciplines such as fashion, interior design and luxury goods. No printmaking experience is required.

Tim’s Vermeer | DMC
Art History Professor Emily Webb will introduce this film by Tim Jenison, a Texas-based inventor, who attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries in all of art: “How did seventeenth-century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer manage to paint so photo-realistically, 150 years before the invention of photography?” The screening will be followed by questions and discussion.

Join Professor Lisa Hart for an up close and personal examination of the Foundation Studies Resource Room. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their direct-observation drawing skills while exploring the vast collection of preserved specimens that range from flying insects to 4-legged beasts. Paper and drawing materials will be provided.

Join Foundation Studies Professor Paul Rodecker as he shares techniques for drawing the human figure efficiently. Students will explore methods for achieving a sense of movement by creating a collection of gesture drawings. Sketchbooks and drawing materials will be provided.

Zootopia: Destination Atlanta
Shuttles will depart from 1600 Peachtree Street at 1 p.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Find your spirit animal with Professor Ann-Marie Manker on this drawing excursion to view the menagerie of beasts that populate the Atlanta Zoo. Tickets are complimentary for all students with a valid SCAD ID. Register at the residence hall office at either ACA House or Spring House by 11 p.m., Friday evening.

Ties That Bind: Building a Sketchbook
Join Illustration Professor Rick Lovell as he shares techniques for constructing a personalized sketch book. Participants will explore ways to bind and format paper to create a visual journal that is as unique as the artist that creates it. Materials will be provided.

Great Inspirations: Reimaging Guo Pei
Using their smart phones, students will capture images of the inspirational Guo Pei pieces on display at SCAD FASH while enjoying a guided tour of “Guo Pei: Couture Beyond.” Working with Professor Soeren Reimers students will use textiles to collage and create artistic pieces of clothes built on body forms. Some elements of draping will be introduced in this experimental workshop. Finished sculptures will be photographed with other props to create a cohesive series of images.

Six Flags over Georgia
Shuttles will depart 1600 Peachtree Street at 10:30 a.m. and return by 8 p.m. Enjoy a day at Atlanta’s biggest and most popular family attraction featuring dozens of thrill rides, shows and activities. Tickets are $35 per person, with a minimum participation requirement of 15 students. Register at the residence hall office at either ACA House or Spring House by 8 p.m. Saturday.

Join Professor Sarah Collins to create seamless repeat prints by hand. Once the prints are created they will explore techniques of cut-out silhouette and fabrication to create exciting contemporary fashion illustrations.

Pool Party and Karaoke Extravaganza
All students are welcomed to Spring House pool for dinner and karaoke! Bring your best routine and show off those singing skills. You can also enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool or just relax with friends! Students can take the Weekend Shuttle route.

Great Silhouettes: Character Sheets
Professor Matthew Maloney instructs participants in the process of developing and designing characters for animation, games, and sequential art. Participants will learn tips and tricks for making their characters unique both visually and conceptually and be guided through the creation of a "character sheet" - an industry standard design element.

Let’s Get Physical
Join Professor Kent Knowles as he explores painting the human figure on a large scale. In this demonstration, participants will learn techniques for painting with acrylic mediums and composing large-format imagery while working within a limited timeframe.

LEGOS: Stop Motion for the Masses
This workshop with Professor O’Hailey uses found objects, Lego blocks, and a little technology to explain animation basics and storytelling. Bring your iPhone, iPad, tablet or smartphone with a camera. We'll provide the rest. (We will download free apps to use.)

Design Impact: Create Your Own Logos
Graphic Design combines effective use of type and image to communicate a message. Join Professor Dean Ballas as he guides you through a series of design exercises to help determine what visual and typographic elements represent you. Students will explore type, image and color theory to formulate a simple logo that epitomizes you!

Know thy Selfie: Tips for Mastering Social Media
Designers, artists, actors, and writers showcase their work, boost their professional profiles, and interact with audiences using social media. Join Writing Professor Catherine Ramsdell for an interactive workshop and explore different ways of creating dynamic social media content.

2 p.m., MAC Lab 376
Make Digital Magic Happen: Adobe Illustrator Basics
Working with Professor Christina Maloney, students get an introduction to motion media and its role in a range of digital arts media. Using tips and tricks for Adobe Illustrator, students will learn to create logos for screen through digital shape building. No experience is needed.

Live Long and Prosper: Understanding Successful Franchises
From graphic novels to films to video games, franchise is possibly the biggest word in entertainment today. Professor Catherine Ramsdell will introduce an iconic episode from the show that arguably started the franchise craze (the original Star Trek) and then lead a discussion about the elements of a successful franchise.
