Leigh "Sunny" Bonnell (B.A., visual communication, 2008) is the co-founder and creative director of Motto, a brand design firm. Since graduating in 2008, Sunny has been featured in the college textbook, The Business of Design; is currently a guest blogger for PINK Magazine; and has been profiled in Readers Digest. The business, however, has been running full time since 2006. Many of the people were contractors while in school and were offered full time positions when we started operations in Atlanta. My latest works are the New Mexico MVD Online Web site and the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department Web site. We won a Digital Government Achievement Award in the "Government-to-Citizen State Government" category for the MVD site I designed and developed. Chandler Brooks (B.F.A., historic preservation, 2008) wrote, "Well I recently moved to the Dallas area back in June following up on a contract position with another firm in the area known as, Architexas. At the end of my three months, the firm was unable to hire me on full time and had to terminate my position henceforth. One month later I signed on as a contract hire with The idGROUP in Dallas and in February, I was hired full time. Since I have been here, I have sincerely missed my family and friends, all hailing on the East Coast, but I have adjusted well and maintain that the opportunity I have is a great one and I should appreciate every moment of it." While in Florida, my goal was to find a career in my field to expand my knowledge and get better at what i do. In August, after a few months of struggling to make ends meet, an opportunity finally came along. I applied for a full-time teaching position at G-Star School of the Arts, an arts high school in West Palm Beach, Florida. I researched the school and was impressed by the way the students were involved with digital media productions and were linked to the company Digital Domain. So far, my experience at this school is everything i always wanted, including the trial and error that help to make me a better teacher. Philip Ernst (B.F.A., industrial design, 2008) is a product/graphic design specialist with Aerial Machine and Tool in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. He wrote, "I currently have two U.S. patents with other designs looking promising for more patents. I develop products with the Navy SEALs and all branches of the military, including the US Coast Guard. I am the first designer that my company has hired full time. I have also helped design some medical electronics/products freelancing for Inception Production Design based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Maria Gallo (B.F.A., fashion, 2008) has become the proud owner/operator of Measure, a fabric parlor in Savannah, Georgia. Measure sells materials and fabrics that assist the creative process for current SCAD students. Nuno Erin will represent Mississippi at the Americas Imagination Summit June 21-22 at The Lincoln Center in New York City. The Summit is a project of the Lincoln Center Institute that will present an action plan for policy makers, educators, and community activists to put imagination at the forefront of our school curricula. Plug Projects is a curatorial collaboration by five Kansas City artists who share the mission of bringing fresh perspectives and conversations to the local art community with the goal of energizing artists and the public at large by exhibiting challenging new work, initiating critical dialogue and expanding connections of artists in Kansas City as part of a wider, national network of artists. Mary "Caroline" Johnson (B.F.A., fibers, 2008) wrote, "I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My company, Caroline Johnson Designs, is based in the city I grew up in, and I am happy to be a part of it again. I was recently hired by Kohl's Department Store to create a Kohl's Cares "Every Ribbon Tells a Story" sculpture for an online auction benefiting the southeast Wisconsin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. My grandmother Mary Wabiszewski's death from stage four lung cancer inspired me to participate. The time I spent with her during her illness was a blessing and has made me become a stronger person and artist. Because of my SCAD education, I was able to take my design and support a foundation and disease that has affected my life.

"The Tree of Life" ribbon sculpture I created portrays the tree of life growing from the ground up. The face rooted at the base of the tree represents a higher power uniting mankind and providing strength and a foundation for life. The intricate root system juxtaposes how humans all grow from the same seed; yet the deep roots that we plant for ourselves distinguish us as individuals. The blossoming pink flower sprouting from the tree symbolizes life, spirituality and hope, while the clouds remind us that, despite our struggles, someday we will each find peace. "The Tree of Life" reminds us that we are all connected and, despite one's personal struggle, we are all rooted in strength and energized by life." (updated 10/31/11)

Ryan Kough (B.F.A., graphic design, 2008) has joined the Purdue Alumni Association as the new art director. Charged with overseeing the art and design of many Purdue Alumni Association projects, Kough assumed her duties in January 2009. Previously, she worked at The Paris Market and Brocante as their brand and marketing director and served as the designer of Savannah Best Restaurants Magazine. Graduating magna cum laude from Pittsburgh Technical Institute in 2003 and the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008, as well as working in such cities as Pittsburgh and New York, it is safe to say Kough has a well-rounded résumé. Chad Newsom (M.A., cinema studies, 2008) completed a Ph.D. in English/Film Studies this year from the University of Florida, where he studied film under Robert B. Ray. He received full tuition, a stipend and a supplemental alumni fellowship to support his studies. He taught lower- and upper-division classes in both film studies and composition, and he was awarded the English Department's "Excellence in Teaching" award in 2010.
