The Savannah College of Art and Design Alumni Showcase features film and digital media work by SCAD alumni working in the entertainment industry. Screenings include a reel of work from Daniel Bodinof (B.F.A., computer art, 2000), who is an animator with Turner Broadcasting System Inc. He has animated commercials for such companies as Disney, Coca-Cola, Cartoon Network and Crayola. He will show clips from his commercial work as well as his senior demo film "Differences" and his current film in production, "Life of a Bee." Shannon Malone (B.F.A., video and art history, 1992) is an associate producer for the Discovery Channel and is working on the 13-part series "No Opportunity Wasted," featuring "Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan. She will show clips from several projects to which she has contributed since graduating from SCAD, including "With All Deliberate Speed," a feature-length documentary on the Brown v. Board of Education court decision. Joe DiLallo (B.F.A., computer art, 1997) is the senior technical director for Sony Imageworks, where he has been working on the animated feature "Polar Express." He will show a compilation reel of his most recent work, as well as work he did as the former senior technical director for Charlex, a 3-D animation and effects studio for film and television. Andrew Beach (B.F.A., video and film, 1996) is a founding partner of Last Exit LLC, a digital design and software development company. He has been instrumental in the development of WaterCooler, the company's first step in video-based solutions that take advantage of unique delivery methods via the Internet. His work has also led to Last Exit's close relationship with Apple.
The Savannah College of Art and Design operates a number of exhibition spaces that feature rotating displays in a variety of media by SCAD students, faculty, alumni and other artists. Two galleries are running concurrent film-themed exhibitions during the Savannah Film Festival. "Motion Stills," showing at the Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St., features mixed media by SCAD alumni and other renowned artists such as Robert Longo, Slater Bradley and filmmaker John Waters that examine the kinetic nature of an increasingly digitized world. "Helen Slater as Supergirl," an exhibition by SCAD painting professor Craig Drennen, addresses the current relationship between film and the "traditional arts." Using the 1984 film "Supergirl" directed by Jeannot Szwarc, Drennen's work recodes the film through drawings, paintings, multiples and audio pieces. The exhibition is showing at the Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St., through Tuesday, Oct. 26, with a closing reception scheduled for Oct. 26 from 9-11 p.m. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
