"Central and parallel to my philosophy of teaching has been an analysis of my own experiences with learning. Not unlike most youngsters, I knew at an early age that I had learned more from 'Ms. Jones' than I had from 'Ms. Smith' - I just did not know why. As I grew older and began to focus on becoming a teacher, I recognized that the quality and quantity of my learning, along with the motivation I had developed to further pursue knowledge, was a direct result of how I was taught. The process was clear. I learned best from teachers who were enthusiastic about their subject material, who had a seemingly endless repository of knowledge and who relished in sharing and imparting that knowledge. I also learned best from those who gave me more than half a chance to succeed and provided encouragement every step of the way. I learned best when teachers expressed a belief in my abilities and set standards for me to strive for. I learned best when my teachers believed that significant learning is not possible unless the learner's feelings and intellect are both involved, and I learned best from those teachers who were, themselves, examples of excellence."

"Fashion is that elusive element in clothing that baffles everyone. It applies to the shape, form, color and composition of clothing. "Knowledge is a virtue that multiplies itself in the process of being shared. I feel I am always learning when I teach, because seeing a familiar subject through the eyes of the students, how they interpret it and what they are able to produce from it, renews my passion. I was motivated while working in the fashion industry, but the end was normally a product that would go from store window to sales rack each season. In teaching, the end is a person. I love to see their talent bloom as they acquire the skills for a successful career."

Fashion allows conformity to the group and yet freedom of expression through personal style. As a business, fashion is a large job generating a system of interdependent industries from production to diffusion. My role is to prepare individuals to engage in fashion careers aware of the psychological and economic impact and social responsibility of their activity."

"To illustrate fashion is to create a fictitious, idealistic world-a utopia that invites all. To unhinge a beauty that has yet to blossom fully, that is what fashion illustration means to me. Art has been a part of my life since day one, but it was finding the puzzle piece fit for my passion that did not unfold until college. While I still enjoy painting, sewing, and other aspects of the art world, fashion illustration is my one true love. Teaching fashion illustration only enhances my love for fashion illustration as well as inspires me further. I am often surprised at how much my students inspire my own artwork on a regular basis."
