Bergen Hall was built in 1926. Designed by Cletus Bergen, this early 20th-century loft building features large industrial sash windows, exposed timber structure, interior brick walls and ornamental cast-stone details. It was originally opened as Slotin & Company, one of the largest dry good wholesalers in Savannah during the early 20th century. SCAD purchased the building in 1990 and renovation since then has transformed the five-story atrium into a first-class photography facility. Here, Photography students explore equipment, technique, black-and-white, color and alternative processes. They learn to take and develop photographs using a variety of cameras and photographic equipment and become thoroughly knowledgeable in all aspects of photography while at SCAD.

Bergen Hall is equipped with classrooms, studios, darkrooms, printing labs, computer labs and alternative processing labs.

SCAD photography students check out equipment for studio shoots like lights, light and grip modification gear, and cameras.

The Bergen Hall graduate student inkjet printing lab features computer workspaces and Canon and Epson large format printers.

SCAD photography students can use 20 enlargers in a darkroom for black and white printing.
