AlumniShow 2010: Second annual graphic design alumni exhibition

The SCAD graphic design department announces AlumniShow 2010, the second annual graphic design alumni exhibition to be held in Poetter Hall, 342 Bull St., in March 2010. Following are the guidelines for submitting art work: Submit up to two projects completed within the last two years; submissions may include freelance projects; send printed samples of ANY of your professional work: posters, magazines, brochures, direct mail, business system, promotion, advertising, small packages, Web, broadcast, ANYTHING! PLay Ground Short Shorts Film Festival

The Play Ground would like to invite independent filmmakers nationwide to participate in its fifth annual Short Shorts Film Festival. These short shorts, which must be no longer than five minutes, will be viewed by a panel of judges, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three films. They must be in DVD format, and must be received by Monday, Feb. 15. View complete contest rules and download an application. The public will be invited to view and judge the top films on Saturday, Feb. 20,7 p.m.

FOTOSOMMER Stuttgart Photography Festival

From June until September 2010 the renowned German photography festival "FOTOSOMMER Stuttgart“ will take place for the fifth time. Currently there is a call for entries for the FOTOSOMMER Award Show - an international contest. Participation is open for all subjects of artistic or applied photography. From all entries the participants will be selected by an international jury, which will also nominate the award winners. All chosen photographs will be presented in the center of Stuttgart at the Württembergischen Kunstverein. The opening will take place July 17, 2010. Learn more and apply.

Lost Art Contest: Recreate Missing Masterpieces
The Lost Art Contest will take place April 9 at SCAD Atlanta, Room 421C. Students are encouraged to recreate a lost work of art based on a written description of the work and the student’s historical and critical understanding of the culture that created it. Choose to render a work from any period in the history of art; the only stipulation is that the work no longer exists or never existed, and that it does not survive in any kind of photographic documentation. The goal of the contest is for students to re-create a lost work of art based on a written description and their own art historical and critical understanding of the culture that created it. Abbadabba's Inc., a footwear company, is sponsoring a logo/design contest and is offering a $500 prize for a design selected by Abbadabba's and chosen as their corporate logo. The best logo/design submitted will receive a $100 prize. If Abbadabba's chooses to change their logo to the image submitted for corporate use, the designer will receive an additional $400. "Pushing the Limits 2010: Curated Invitational Fiber Exhibition"
Artspace gallery, in Richmond, Va., seeks entries for a fiber/textile arts show titled "Pushing the Limits 2010: Curated Invitational Fiber Exhibition" to coincide with "Virginia's Minds Wide Open: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts." The juried exhibition is open to women, with an entry fee of $20 for three images. Artspace gallery seeks to exhibit fiber art which is contemporary in nature and invites submissions that reflect a wide range of works related to the fiber medium. 34th Annual Glenn Miller Scholarship Competition
Clarinda, Iowa's Glenn Miller Birthplace Society is offering scholarships of $4,500, $2,000 and $1,000 to instrumentalists and the vocal artists. These scholarships, which are awarded without regard to any other award, may be used for any education-related expense. Learn more.

SCAD students and faculty are encouraged to submit images of their work for consideration as home page images on the SCAD Web site. High-resolution JPEG format images only, with the smallest dimension greater than 1,000 pixels. Images may be cropped to fit the landscape orientation of the site. Student artwork should include the name of the student, hometown, degree sought and major; title of the work; medium; dimensions (when appropriate); and year work was produced (e.g., Jane Smith, Brookline, Mass., B.F.A. student in painting, Morning Dew, oil on canvas, 8" x 10", 2003). Faculty artwork should include faculty member's name, position and department; title of work; medium; dimensions (when appropriate); and year work was produced (e.g., Mary Williams, professor of illustration, Tybee Pier, chromogenic print, 2004).
