Garden & Gun Made in the South Awards

Garden & Gun seeks any Southern craftsman or entrepreneur looking for a better way to tell the story of his or her brand. Operations must be based in the South and fall under one of the following categories: food, home, style, sporting, etc. The competition celebrates the rich cultural tradition of Southern craft, design and ingenuity, with an emphasis on small businesses.

Anno Student Design Competition
Anno is an online student design competition covering the disciplines of advertising, architecture, fashion design, graphic design, illustration, industrial design and photography. The competition is open to anyone currently studying, in any of these categories, at a tertiary level. Upload your entry into the relevant category where it will be open to voting for a period of one month from the date of entry. At the end of each month the top 25 ranked works will be archived for inclusion in the quarterly judging. The winning works from the semifinals will be featured in the Anno Annual 2010. The annual will be available for purchase online and at bookstores worldwide. The top work for the first month, as chosen by our select judging panel, will be featured in a digital exhibition at Melbourne’s Federation Square during design week.

Canvas Artist Series Contest

Hyatt Hotels and Resorts and Canvas Wines welcomes students to submit their artistic interpretation of the varietal characteristics of Canvas Wines.One winner for each varietal wine will receive a $5,000 scholarship and may have their artwork featured as a label on a special bottling of Canvas Wines. Art students from an accredited art school or program may create an original artistic representation of the varietal characteristics of the three main Canvas wines: cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay and merlot, using original artwork. Three finalists will be chosen for each varietal wine and featured on the Canvas Wines website for visitors to view and vote for. Three grand prize winners will be chosen, one for each varietal artwork, based on a combination of the public voting and other criteria. Each of the three grand prize winners will win the $5,000 scholarship from Hyatt and have their artwork featured on a special bottling of Canvas Wines, featured exclusively at Hyatt Hotels and Resorts in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.

Reykjavik International Film Festival 2010 Talent Laboratory

The Reykjavik International Film Festival will be held for the seventh time Sept.23-Oct.3. As Iceland's highest attended cultural event, the main purpose of the festival is to offer both Icelandic and international filmgoers a wide selection of alternative, independent cinema. The Talent Laboratory will last for three days (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) during which the filmmakers will participate in workshops and discussions with already established names within the film industry.

The Art Libraries Society of North America LoPresti Publication Award Competition
The Art Libraries Society of North America is the largest international professional organization devoted to art librarianship. The Southeast Chapter of ARLIS/NA established the LoPresti Publication Award Competition in 1985 to recognize and encourage excellence in art publications issued in the Southeastern United States. The publication awards are named for Mary Ellen LoPresti, who was the design librarian at the Harrye B. Lyons Design Library, North Carolina State University, until her death in 1985. Museums and galleries, educational institutions, libraries, organizations and commercial presses are encouraged to submit publications for consideration. All publications will be judged on the quality of content and format within the appropriate category. The number of items that may be submitted is not restricted. Only those art and architecture books, exhibition catalogs, and serials published (copyrighted) during the 2009 calendar year in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, or the Virgin Islands are eligible for consideration. In-house newsletters, posters, invitations and other promotional material will not be considered. Winning entries will be placed in the Duke University East Campus Library, Durham, N.C.

CAA Fellowships for MFA Students

This fall, the College Art Association will award five grants of $5,000 each to outstanding students who will receive M.F.A. degrees in calendar year 2011. Honorable mentions, awarded at the discretion of the jury, will receive a free one-year CAA membership and complimentary registration to the Annual Conference.
CAA’s Professional-Development Fellowships in the Visual Arts offer financial assistance to promising M.F.A. candidates. Fellows are honored with grants to help them with various aspects of their work, whether it be for job-search expenses or purchasing materials for the studio. CAA believes a grant of this kind, without contingencies, can best facilitate the transition between graduate studies and professional careers.
