Sausan Saulat exhibition: "Occidental Accidents"
Mar. 01 – Mar. 14, 2013
Dewberry Gallery of SCAD | 1545 Peachtree St., Suite 225, Atlanta, Ga.
The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Occidental Accidents," a thesis exhibition by M.F.A. painting student Sausan Saulat. "Occidental Accidents" explores notions about the artist's home country of Pakistan and the Muslim world at large, seen through the eyes of the West. Layered with metaphors for tradition, gender, sexuality, politics and religion, Saulat's paintings and installation-based work tread between the frivolous caricaturing of the East and the conceptions of "otherness." The exhibition attempts to dismantle some of the myths associated with ethnic typecasting.
Reception: March 1, 6-8 p.m.
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday, 1-6 p.m.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
