Seydou Keita and August Sander exhibition: "Portraits" (Selected works from The Walther Collection)

Oct. 15 – Dec. 28, 2012

Gallery 1600 | SCAD Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Ga.

The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Portraits," a dynamic conversation between Seydou Keïta and August Sander, two modern photography masters whose images boldly capture the social transformations of the 20th century through the faces of everyday people. Through selected portraits by Seydou Keïta of people in Mali's capital city, Bamako, in the late 1940s and mid-1950s, alongside works from August Sander's portfolio "Antlitz der Zeit (Face of Our Time)" from the 1920s, this exhibition explores how two prominent photographers documented shifting identities in Mali and Germany.

Reception: Oct. 25, 6-7 p.m.

Gallery hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
