Kristie Carlisle Duncan Exhibition: "Beaked: A Story in Fabric"
Sep. 14 – Sep. 28, 2011
Fahm Hall Gallery | 9 N. Fahm St., Savannah, Ga.
The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Beaked: A Story in Fabric" by M.F.A. fibers student Kristie Carlisle Duncan. Narratives are designed to inform, amuse and instruct. Duncan employs endearing creatures and vibrant scenes in her story to comment on the more sinister struggles of human behavior and social relationships. She is inspired by the rich connection story has with fiber. Through the use of second hand fabrics, Duncan continues these stories. The comforts provided by the fabric for its previous owner creates a familiar place for viewers to immerse themselves in the world of these subversive stories in order to reflect on their own. The world is full of brutality and deceit, but fabric makes everything a bit softer.
Reception: Friday, Sept. 23, 6-7:30 p.m.
Gallery hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
