Jesse Shaw Exhibition: "Functions of the Spiral"
Aug. 08 – Aug. 22, 2011
Hall Street Gallery | 212 W. Hall St., Savannah, Ga.
The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Functions of the Spiral," a thesis exhibition by M.F.A.
furniture design student Jesse Shaw. Shaw's thesis focuses on the fact that there are rarely any straight lines in nature. Growth and movement exist on curvilinear paths. One such path is the helix that is present in a variety of forms - from the chaos of a hurricane to the precision of a shell, even down to the structure of our DNA. There is reason for this spiraling; there is utility behind its aesthetics. This thesis show is an exploration of spiral and helical forms in nature and how their functions may be utilized in the realm of furniture design.
Reception: Friday, Aug. 19, 6-7:30 p.m.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
