Builders, Bolsheviks and Bulldozers: Facets of 20th-century Russian and Soviet Art
Mar. 23 – Apr. 30, 2010
Pei Ling Chan Gallery | 322 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Savannah, Ga.
The exhibitions and art history departments present "Builders, Bolsheviks and Bulldozers: Facets of 20th Century Russian and Soviet Art," an exhibition that represents three turbulent and artistically fertile periods of Russian and Soviet history via propaganda and avant-garde art. The exhibition’s three parts explore the building of the Soviet state through the 1905 and 1917 revolutions, Bolshevik propaganda of the 1930s, and the growth of nonconformist art following the infamous “bulldozer exhibition” of 1974. This exhibition is the second in SCAD’s Savannah Collects series representing local collections, and is curated by, Andrew Nedd, Ph.D. and Margaret Betz, Ph.D., SCAD art history professors and Erin Dziedzic, SCAD exhibitions curator.
Reception: Friday, April 30, 6-8 p.m.
Winners of the "Propaganda Poster Project," sponsored by the arts administration department, will be announced.
