Desert Jewels: North African Jewelry and Photography from the Xavier Guerrand-Hermès Collection

This exhibition showcases approximately 80 previously unexhibited pieces of North African jewelry and 27 late 19th- and early 20th-century photographs. Collected by Xavier Guerrand-Hermès, this work illuminates the diversity and beauty of traditional North African design. Crafted from silver, coral, amber and other semi-precious stones, the jewelry includes wedding necklaces, hair ornaments and fibula. Moroccan, Algerian and Egyptian jewelry shows common threads of Berber culture, as well as local variations in materials and motifs. The exhibition is organized by the Museum for African Art, New York. SCAD Style events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

"Design Thinking" Exhibition

"Monumental Ideas in Miniature Book Making" Exhibition

The exhibitions department presents "Monumental Ideas in Miniature Book Making," a traveling exhibition of nearly 150 miniature artists' books from more than 13 countries. These little treasures explore epic tales, poetry and storytelling using a myriad of book and printmaking techniques by nationally and internationally recognized book artists. Originated by the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio, "Monumental Ideas in Miniature Book Making" debuted at the 2009 Southern Graphics Council at Columbia College, Ill. A reception will take place July 17, 6-8 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Sharon Core "Early American”

The exhibitions department presents "Early American," a series of still life photographs by artist Sharon Core based on the paintings of early 19th-century still life painter Raphaelle Peale. In her work, Core engages the concept of illusionism central to the genre of still life and upends the notion of trompe l'oeil by attempting to create a photograph that appears to be a painting. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
