"Fantastic Adventures in Text and Image "

This exhibition charts the adventures of famous literary characters such as Robinson Crusoe, Lemuel Gulliver, Moll Flanders and Tom Sawyer through various editions of books, including those illustrated by well-known artists such as Cruikshank, Hogarth, Rowlandson and Rockwell.

"Lines and Shadows, Image and Self: Artist Portraits on Paper"

This exhibition features important artist portrait prints from the 16th and 18th centuries, drawn from the SCAD Museum of Art's collection. Included are early portraits of Michelangelo and Raphael, portraits of Rembrandt, several engravings from Anthony Van Dyck's series "Iconography" and early mezzotints portraying Lely, Kneller, Reynolds and others by pioneering British printmakers such as Isaac Beckett and John Smith.

"Hogarth’s Tale of Two Cities: Rich and Poor in 18th-century London"

This comprehensive exhibition of prints by William Hogarth chronicles the highs and lows of life in 18th-century London. Selected from the SCAD Museum of Art's Earle W. Newton Collection of British and American Art, the 50 pieces on view include celebrated series such as "A Harlot's Progress," "A Rake's Progress," "Industry and Idleness," "Four Prints of an Election" and "Marriage à la Mode." Hogarth's moralizing narratives interweave actual events and contemporaries with his imaginative visions to create a rich pageant of urban life.

Significant works from SCAD's permanent collection-including paintings, drawings and prints by Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, Salvadore Dalí, Raphael Soyer, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold and others-represent changing movements in modern and contemporary art.

"Mapping the Past: A Selection of Antique Cartography from the Newton Collection"

Maps depicting North America, Great Britain and the world are on view in the museum's three map galleries. Highlights include 1597 maps from the earliest atlas of the Americas, 1776 military maps, and other 17th- and 19th-century maps, some of them hand-colored. Cartographers include Wytfliet, Hondius, Monath, Lotter, d'Anville, Faden, Lodge, Cary and Wyld.

"150 Years of Architectural Elegance: The Central of Georgia Railroad’s 1856 Gray Building Headquarters" and "Saving a National Treasure: Bricks, Mortar and Metal"

These exhibitions chronicle the history of SCAD's Kiah Hall. Once the headquarters of the venerable Central of Georgia Railroad and now a college art museum, the landmark Greek Revival building epitomizes the elegance of mid-19th-century architecture. Exhibition assistance was provided through a grant from the Georgia Humanities Council. Complementing the historical overview of the building is a small photographic exhibition that documents the recently completed exterior preservation of the structure, a project made possible by a major Save America's Treasures federal grant and additional assistance from the Charles A. Frueauff Foundation and the Frances Wood Wilson Foundation.

"The Master Eye: 19th- and 20th-century Photography from the Rhoades Collection"

The photographs in this exhibition include iconic examples from pioneering 19th-century practitioners and major 20th-century photographers, who wielded their cameras to capture images of arresting landscapes, richly textured narratives, elegant fashion scenes, singular still lifes and powerful portraits. Featured photographers include Mathew Brady, Eadweard Muybridge, Man Ray, Robert Mapplethorpe, Herb Ritts, Annie Leibovitz and other celebrated masters.

"Crossing Timelines" Exhibition by Joy Flynn
Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St., Savannah, Ga.
The exhibitions department presents a new series by SCAD foundation studies professor Joy Flynn. Flynn creates a visual journal that explores abstract ideas of time, generational relationships and experiences in her ancestral homeland of Norway. The work in this exhibition was funded in part by a SCAD Presidential Fellowship for Faculty Development. A reception is scheduled June 6, 6-8 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-4 p.m.

"Yes No Maybe So" Exhibition by Marcus Kenney

The exhibitions department presents "Yes No Maybe So," a new body of work by SCAD alumnus Marcus Kenney (M.F.A., photography, 1995). Kenney intuitively uses found objects in paintings and sculptures that engage social narratives. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. A reception is scheduled July 24, 6-8 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

"Yoswadi Krutklom/ A Story of the Story" Exhibition

This M.F.A. exhibition by illustration student Yoswadi Krutklom reinterprets contemporary Hollywood gossip-magazine idols as laugh-out-loud characters. The exhibition and reception, scheduled July 21, 6-8 p.m., are free and open to the public.

July 7-Aug. 8
"Kinetic" Exhibition by Matt Toole
Gallery S.P.A.C.E., 9 W. Henry St., Savannah, Ga.
"Kinetic" features a series of sculptural pieces and a video installation of a performance by Matt Toole, a foundation studies and sculpture professor at SCAD. In conjunction with the exhibition, Toole will conduct a three-day found-object workshop for youth during the Savannah Summer Art Camps. An artist's reception is scheduled July 11, 6-8 p.m. The exhibition and artist's reception are free and open to the public. "Utopia Subdivided" Exhibition by Janet Onofrey

In this collection of oil paintings and drawings of suburban landscapes, Janet Onofrey examines the standardized aesthetic of planned communities that promote an environment of rigid isolation, exclusion and segregation. This exhibition is free and open to the public.

"The M.F.A. Experience" Exhibition

The exhibitions department hosts "The M.F.A. Experience," an exhibition highlighting exceptional Master of Fine Arts students who have proposed and/or completed their thesis projects. Featuring new work by selected students from the Schools of Fine Arts and Design at both the Savannah and Atlanta campuses, the show explores the development of the artists' practices across a range of media. The reception is scheduled July 24, 6-8 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public. M.F.A. fibers student Ji Yeon Hwang uses perspective drawings and photographic images to create a visual collage for use in jacquard woven structures. The manipulated images play on viewers' individual perceptions and create an illusion of space influenced by cubism. The exhibition and reception, scheduled Aug. 1, 6-8 p.m., are free and open to the public.

"Minutiae" Exhibition by Kanako Muraguchi

"Minutiae" is a collection of digital prints on fabric. Drawing from simple objects, Muraguchi engages forms and colors through a variety of media, both traditional and digital, until transformation takes place. Through the creative process, the mundane becomes exceptional, and simple objects that are often overlooked become impressive. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
