Eric Aditya Dalimarta, a Savannah College of Art and Design visual effects Master of Fine Arts candidate, shows his work in “see — feel — believe,” on display at Hall Street Gallery, 211 Hall St., through June 4.

Dalimarta, who is from Indonesia, has focused his thesis on realizing the internal image he has at the time he snaps a photograph, despite the limitations of the medium or the object.

“When I take a photograph, I sometimes cannot capture what I saw,” he explained. “My desire is to show what I originally grasped, and these images are reflected by merging different materials and methods to visualize my perception.”

He utilizes what he has learned through his studies at SCAD and his professional experience as a division director of a multimedia company to create alternative and surprising realities.

“I want to bend the limitation of human vision, so that every person can see what I see,” said Dalimarta. “Nevertheless, my artworks are a combination of logical and absurd ways of seeing worlds.”

He transforms everyday environments into an experience that bends what viewers would see inside his imaginative world. Most of his images are inspired by urban structures and objects, or by natural landscapes. From these images, Dalimarta develops ways to express his private experiences of these subjects.

“Through my work I want to share what I see, feel and believe about the world,” he said. “The world, which gives a disorienting glimpse that could be interpreted differently, will always be viewed differently based on people’s point of view, what they see, feel and believe.”

Senior illustrators show work

The SCAD Society of Illustrators — a student organization for illustrators interested in discussing the market and entering shows and contests — is presenting the SCAD Senior Illustration Show at the Drayton Arts Center, Unit F, 2424 Drayton St.

The show, run by SOI, features work by 30 graduating seniors.

“The exhibition celebrates four years [of] hard work and incredible talent for 2007’s graduating class,” said SOI member Katie Schaefer.

There will be a closing reception for the artists June 1, 7-9 p.m., at the Drayton Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
