Jerry Schutte: "Figurative Works"

3/25/2006

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design presents “Figurative Works,” an exhibition by visiting artist Jerry Schutte, in Alexander Hall Gallery, 668 Indian St., March 25–April 10. “Figurative Works” is an investigation of the human figure. Schutte’s drawings are done mostly from his direct observation of live models.

“Figurative Works” reflects Schutte’s constant concern for depicting his subjects accurately and challenges his audience to ask questions like, “Is this gesture believable?” or “Are there any anatomical problems?”

“I don’t believe I’m ever certain I’ve addressed these issues to my total satisfaction; that may be impossible,” said Schutte. “I do know that I remain committed to the effort and that the human figure offers me possibilities for self-expression and discovery that no other subject can.”

Schutte, an associate art professor at Arizona State University, has received numerous awards, fellowships and grants from institutions across the country.

This exhibition is free and open to the public. It is also featured as part of the April 7 gallery hop. For more information, contact 912.525.4743 or exhibitions@scad.edu.
