Ceramics Minor Sets Library on Fire
2/16/2007 The ceramics minor at the Savannah College of Art and Design holds its second "Out of the Fire"* exhibition Feb. 16–March 19, at Jen Library, 201 E. Broughton St. The juried show features both functional and decorative items and spotlights various techniques and designs.
The ceramics minor is housed in Alexander Hall, 668 Indian St., along with the painting department and the Savannah printmaking minor. (Printmaking Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees are offered at SCAD-Atlanta.) For viewers interested in seeing more work by SCAD ceramics students, the hall space surrounding the ceramics facilities — which include potters’ wheels, kilns, and space for glaze and clay mixing and hand-building — also serves as a showplace for student work. In addition, during the painting department’s biannual Open Studio Night, ceramics students provide demonstrations of various techniques and display their work. "Out of the Fire"* will be included on the college's March 2 gallery hop, 5–7 p.m. Visitors also can see the work during Jen Library's regular hours, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
