Feb. 2 gallery hop features photography, video installations and more

2/2/2007

The Savannah College of Art and Design presents its monthly gallery hop Friday, Feb. 2, 5-7 p.m., in five college facilities. The event is free and open to the public. Shuttles will run between the galleries and refreshments will be served. Participants may join the gallery hop at any of the stops.

February’s gallery hop features:

“Cumulonimbus”
Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St.
"Cumulonimbus" is a type of cloud — one that is perhaps the most defined of all in its shape, and produces storms. This exhibition explores cumulonimbus as a phenomenon between the form and formless, and as a stage of simultaneous creation and deterioration.

“There’s an Elephant in the Room”
Poetter Hall, 342 Bull St.
Presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design Society of Illustrators, and featuring art by SCAD illustration students.

“Forgotten Territory”
Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St.
SCAD foundation studies professor Monica James (M.F.A., painting, 2005) presents a series of paintings done through intuitive and reactionary experiences of researching the burial and excavation of the history of African Americans.

“Faculty Photography”
Alexander Hall Gallery, 668 Indian St.
SCAD photography faculty explores the range of photography practice in the industry.

“Firmament”
Pei Ling Chan Gallery, 322 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
"Firmament" is a site-specific video and sound installation by SCAD professor of film and television Michael Jackson Chaney. It brings to question issues of mythology and spirituality.
